I would recommend not putting them on until applying a higher quality tape. And even then, they could come off.

I would not say it is related to heat. In fact, I don't even think the exhaust tips get that hot along the front edge. These just fit over the stock tip and are held on by the tape.

I suppose you get creative and drill a small hole and use a self-tapping screw for some mechanical hold. Assuming you don't mind doing that... But there really isn't a lot of area for a screw either. The edges where they overlap the exhaust tips is pretty narrow.

Anyway, I thought they looked pretty good. While they lasted.
You would need to use one of 3M’s heat resistant tapes like these:

https://www.vikingtapes.co.uk/collec...perature-tapes

Plus, first clean both surfaces thoroughly with alcohol, then prime with 3M Primer 94, and finally make sure everything is at least 25°C before sticking.

Also, even better if you rough up both surfaces first with 3000 grit wet and dry paper.

I thoroughly cleaned the surfaces but the tape that is included is indeed not very good.

On a side note, the plates and tips do get pretty damn hot, maybe not because of the exhaust itself but definitely with sitting in the sun all day. I have a nice blister on my finger for proof as to how hot they got yesterday when I went to pull the one off that was just barely hanging on...

Flashed with bootmod3. Stage 1 91 oct for now, until I get a downpipe and intake/filter. Drives incredibly well, I’m amazed it made such a big difference. Very fun to drive.

Man, I really do want to get this. I'm still a tad uneasy about long term effects though, even if I'd only be doing the Stage 1 91 octane mapping.

I want that
Order a pair!

I take it back, don't order a pair! One fell off while I was driving and the other was just barely hanging on when I got home. The 3M tape included on these things are not made to withstand the heat of AZ and the exhaust it would seem.
Sorry to hear. I like the look but had the concern about adhesion of those tapes under heat, I guess my concern was well founded

Which blendmount did you use in the photo? Do you have a model number? Blendmount says use BBV-2018 for X3 m40i but it looks different from yours. I think I like your mount better!

Never knew this even on my '13 or '16 3 series. But if I did then the saying "you learn something new everyday" would be a lie

It definitely would have worked on the 16, maybe not the 13 though.

I let my 17 year old have a go in the new family rocket. Rarely see teens smile or show interest unless its something COOL. He decided it was VERY COOL.

Hrmm... spend some time learning about this 3M VHB tape variants.

The GPH kinds look like the way to go. Alternative maybe the 5952 and 4611 in the VHB series.

Placed order for few of these tapes along with Primer 94.

Will see how this method holds up.

Thanks for the tips.
