bm3 tune

Who's running bm3 tune on their m40i?

Debating getting it just got a 2019 brand new... around 2k miles now.

Would only do stage 1 with 93. No downpipe.

Anyone with the bm3 stage 1 please post how much it unleashed the b58/ overall driving experience change. Worth the risk?

thanks

I’m at a little over 3k mikes and have had Stage 1 91 octane for about a week now. Would absolutely recommend it, I wasn’t expecting such a big difference from just a reflash with no mods. The car just picks and moves, and wants to keep going. Very enjoyable. I’ll be picking up a catless downpipe and moving on to stage 2 soon.

If you are not planning to do catless, it is somewhat pointless to go flash tune.
A simple piggy back in general is up to par with stage 1 flash tune.
And it is easily removed and installed.

Piggy back is the opposite of flash tune.
It just plugged to the sensors and tricking the data.
So, it is less intrusive than flash tune.

Up to par speed wise, yes.

Up to par smoothness for part throttle, no.

Depending on the product quality.
Not all piggyback are the same.

True, I have just heard this about the JB4.

Not sure if the others are like that part throttle, but I haven't seen quite as good gains from them either.

I've experienced many piggybacks on motorcycles and cars - nothing is going to beat an ECU tune.

even for stage 1 - no piggyback for me

I recently flashed using BM3 and have to say my initial impressions via my butt dyno are good. Chose the 91 octane map for starters as I already had a full tank and wasn't disappointed. Dont have any logs/times just yet but maybe in the near future.

The flashing process was painless and overall went very smooth. PTF's tech support was excellent in assisting me through the process despite a small problem with an oil service notification after the flash. This was resolved very quickly as Serge from PTF remote accessed into to my DME and resolved the problem in a few minutes.

I was on the fence about a piggyback or flash tune but what sold me on BM3 was the ability to customize the maps and not paint myself into a corner if I decide to upgrade in the future. My vote is in

Is a piggyback detectable by dealerships? For a leased vehicle say, you remove the piggy in your engine bay, take it in for service, will they know if anything was installed?

If they really wanted to a close look at your data, they'd know. I've had piggy back tunes in the past and removing before service was the way to go but not guaranteed to save your ass when it comes to voiding your warranty. However, flash tunes are safer IMO. And NO TUNE is the safest option of all but where's the fun in that?

Unless you are red-lining the engine everytime you drive, it is very hard to be detected.
That's all I can say.

While Flash Tune, will leave digital footprint which is easily detectable.

Not saying Flash Tune is bad.

I flashed mine yesterday with Bootmod3 - Stage 1 93 octane. It is absolutely unreal how quickly you feel the difference. Even at low speeds through the neighborhood you'll notice how touchy and more responsive the throttle is. The turbos make a different noise as they spool up as well. I don't have any factual data, but I would say my 0-60 time improved by .4-.5 seconds. Would highly recommend based on my limited road time. Also, the R&D support is second to none. They responded to my questions and provided advice within minutes of sending a help email.
