Broke the hook for the rear window shades
Just thought I would share this so owners can be aware and more careful when handling your rear window sun shades (or peasant blockers as it's often called in North America?).
The plastic hooks mounted to the top frame of your rear doors which you attach the screen shades on to are actually quite fragile and can easily snapped, which is what happened to mine. The point of highest stress (the actual hook point itself) is made from very thin plastic and on top of that has a whole in the middle for the screw cover latch on to. So not only does this thin plastic has to hold the weight of the spring-pulled shades, it is also a latch point for the screw covers. No wonder it breaks and snaps so easily. The actual replacement part itself is about AUD$12 each, so I bought an extra one just in case another one snaps. |

Here are the pictures of the broken hook.
I don't get why BMW decided to make the whole thing so solid around where the hooks attach to the door frame, but the real stress point of the hook itself is so fragile. I've had cars in the past with shades and the hooks have all been solidly designed and built, none is as flawed as this from BMW |

I would guess that it was designed to break off at that weak point. Someone was thinking way ahead in case of emergency, fire or submerged car where the door was jammed the screen would give way with just a push without trapping the occupants inside. Just an idea.

Thanks for posting this. I never looked closely at my hooks, but always assumed they were part of the whole window moulding... I'm glad to see they're a separate part!
