Ok need help from the community, so it seems the partial throttle at low rpms 800-2500 can register knock at times because of the sensors sensitivity. I flashed my car back to stock and the following is a log of just cruising around to near by streets. Everytime I stop and start going again, it registers knock when on partial throttle.

Anyone else with BM3 (tuned or stock) that can log this same scenario for me to see if they get knock too? Would highly appreciate it!

**Update**

BrockDM was nice enough to data log for me today for partial throttle scenarios. His has the same registered knocks at times in partial throttle, so it seems this is normal for our platform. Whew!

Thanks Brock!

Partial throttle knocks are meaningless. If you get knocks under full throttle, contact Paul.

Before my experience with this platform, any registered knock on data logs was meaningful lol. But I understand now.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been running (and logging) Paul’s custom E30 and E50 tunes on my F97 for the past 18 months without any problems.

Do you see those partial throttle knocks as well and just disregard them?

yes, I asked Paul and he told me to disregard them. Btw, I already had them before flashing the car.

Paul has applied the fix for the registered low end knock on the new map, this is in line with how the s58-2 stock tune comes from factory. Drove around and can confirm I no longer see knock on low end.

I understand it's not a concern but it was a nice fix for the unnecessary false positive to register in the logs. I've asked Paul to up the boost as well up top....car feels solid!

Will be booking my Dyno appointment soon once the revisions are done.

Hey sir...checking in to see how things are going? Now that I know you are trying to maximize a ST1 93 tune, curious if you have been able to compare vs. St1 OTS 93 map :>).

Just got my PI...going to start working on set-up...lol

Car feels great, right now just working with Paul on revisions for more boost and timing changes. I'll tell ya at least that with a custom tune you can get safe AFRs. I'll have to see what the OTS 93 octane AFRs are but I was told by someone who uses a JB4 that in WOT they see 24-25psi with AFRs at 14.5! Super Lean! I'm running much richer than that all the way to redline.

Very cool! Thank you. Yes, Would love to hear a little bit more about the difference between OTS and the custom tune. I'm a big believer in the Custom route. Much appreciated

I'll reserve my comments about the JB4 as I have never been a fan of piggybacks, nor will I run one. That's just me though. I know plenty folks run them and things are "fine".

I don't have the OTS tune at the moment, I plan to run that on the Dyno as a comparison.

Got a new revision from Paul, was able to flash it using the new laptop I ordered.

Now I can use the laptop just for flashing (while hard wired) and connect the phone via the WIFI BM3 agent for logging. I've been told by others that flashing over Wifi isn't the best experience so I will avoid it. But logging while on wifi sure beats hard wire connected to the phone.

Yep JB4's run lean and mean, horrible for the car in every way!!!

Imagine throwing all this extra boost now the car runs HOTTER (more boost) and AFR lean (bad for engine ). Expect shorter spark plugs life, blown out o2 sensors etc.

Its weird because people have been running JB4s for 10+ years now without much issue if you keep it simple.

It's possible but running that high boost with those AFRs is just asking for trouble.

I get it that our s58 is more forgiving but why would you want to do that.

Back in the days yeah, but since 2015 JB4 has not been popular on the BMW Fxx and Gxx series.

I can tell you I am living proof of the garbage JB4 is for modern bmw and its much more harmful than you think. If you lease the car sure you may not see it, but if you planning on keeping a reliable car for 3-7yrs i would not even put a jb4 on my car for free. I've only ran BM3 in my cars since they released to the platform and I can tell you, it puts a smile on my face every time I sit in my car knowing it has a good, solid, BM3 Tune or a proper Custom Tuned done via BM3.
