Downpipes needed for Stage 2

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
As the title suggests. Are downpipes really needed for stage 2? Or is there any hardware actually required to run stage 2 for that matter?

I’ve read a few instances where people have merely just flashed new software with no updates to hardware.

Yes, catless downpipe is required for stage 2 flash tune.
Otherwise there is no point of going stage 2 with stock cat where its super restrictive.

A forum member will be installing and doing a full review next week I believe.

All catless downpipes should sound the same though with stock exhaust systems. Few good clips in here

I strong recommend install use sport cat (200cells), i used to have like straight pipes and sound was too loud, even inside the car, with sport cat sound much better and don't have weird noise inside

p.s.

Stock cat is very restrictive and not good even for stage 1, after changing - u have much less turbo lag and delay

You may just getting them in trouble with CARB and EPA.

I appreciate you pointing that out!

Let me be clear none of these shops are dealers for us nor am I implying they will install this product. These are just 3 highly rated shops I found on a quick Google search.

All of our products are for off road competition use only.

We offer Active Autowerke, Evolution Racewerks, and Racing Dynamics X3M / X4M catted downpipes.

The active autowerke is the only one that guarantees no check engine light

Pretty broad statement lol. Quite hard to sell a product without really showing the product installed onto a car let alone sound clip nor testimonials with items installed. As far as other vendors here, they will give teasers on items soon to be released like r33_RGSport as they do install and test these items on their own cars or shop cars and give their own opinion and honest reviews.

That was all done in our pre release thread we did more than month ago with MPire Performance in Ny tested them on their now traded in shop car. I'll contact them to see if they did any videos that I can share.

Neophyte Purchased a set and plans to do a full review and video unfortunately he's currently on vacation at the moment. He's not a dealer pushing our stuff, sponsored or compensated in anyway so you won't get any more of an honest review than that.

Hopefully some other forum members that purchased chime in with some content as well.

It's just a downpipe. Nothing really special to it tbh. Lifetime warranty on fitment and defects is good enough for me. It's also the cheapest option available. I have my appointment set for May 18 and hope to have sound clips and review by the 19th. I even bought a tripod for that lol.

I once bought the "highest quality" (hand built, made in the USA, etc) downpipes available for my g37 and they broke after several hard pulls. The company fixed it for "free", but I still had to pay over $100 for shipping. The point of this story is that nothing is guaranteed to work perfectly and paying more for a "reputable" company doesn't mean you're getting a better product.

My last build (turbo upgrade pump tune S55) was tuned with catless. I went from catless to high flow cats, mainly due to smell and less sound (was pretty much wide open). I had significant timing pulls with the high flow 200 cell cats. The sound was good, but i had to dial down the boost or timing to get clean logs. This was the S55, so not sure if this will hold true with the S58 or not. I kept my secondary's on my current S58 and have fairly clean logs.
