Regarding the rear calipers being small, here is a nice explanation:

Thank you. I am aware of the purpose of rear brakes and that it really doesn't matter that they're single piston. The comment was more about aesthetics than functionality.

OP, can you provide a view on acceleration vs the f80? Don't recall if yours was stock or tuned.

Also the same for handling please? Have to imagine the x3m has more sway on transitions and aggressive cornering given the height/weight. Thanks and enjoy in good health!

Also, did you consider the glc AMG while shopping? If so, wonder what made you choose this over the mb.

The acceleration feels very similar, which makes sense given the F80 horsepower was rated at about 425 and this is 503 but has the extra weight. I will say the power can certainly feel a bit delayed in modes other than Sport+, but I also was used to manual gearing in my F80. I'd have to imagine an X3MC and an F80 would be neck and neck. If you look at 0-60 times (which I really don't, and don't care about), the X3MC has like .4s on the F80, but its also AWD.

I did not, not a fan of Mercedes in general and their pricing is atrocious. BMW really locks you in with those loyalty discounts (and the car itself being amazing). It's worth noting that I came from a Macan and love this wayyyyy more than that.

Very nice, honest review.
Except for the part where you call it a truck, I know it's an American thing, but seriously, X3M is far from a truck.
Cheers mate

Yeah, generalization. I've never thought of it as a "truck" but that's the accepted term here.

Great review. We should try to set up a Long Island F97/F98 Meet, With proper social distancing of course.

Those gauges are WONDERFUL! Highly preferred over the new style. Would love to see them install both as options in the programming.

I agree about the ride. I have no idea what people are complaining about. They apparently expect M cars to ride like their non-M brethren or something, and all the non-M cars have become way too soft recently.

It used to be you could buy any BMW and have a sporty car, but that's not the case any more. Leave the M cars like they are please.
If only that were true.

From the E30 M3 onwards, the M car suspension has been tuned increasingly harsher with each generation. The trend probably goes back more, I just haven’t driven those older M cars.

For me personally, the X3M Competition ride is on the barely acceptable side of things, but I daily drive an M3 and that has a solidly mounted rear subframe. Considering this car is meant to bring new people to the M brand, I fear it may be too much for most of them.

I don’t know about bringing new people. For me, X3MC is meant for M3/M4 drivers who became parents

Why wimp out on an X3M then?

My M3 has almost the same interior space. I carry tall teenagers to swim practice, go to Costco with it, and Home Depot.

The one thing you can’t do in the X car is track it - most organizations don’t allow SUVs on track, and even if they did it would be murder on the consumables.

I like the review. But, the whole thing about ride comfort I somewhat understand at least in comparison to the F80 M3 I have driven. I personally felt the F80 felt a little softer. But, I'm sure BMW needed to find a way to maintain the flat cornering of these vehicles with the higher center of gravity.
