I legitimately never touch the screen. Ever. Not in weeks or months.

Do you use CarPlay?

All the time. Can still use full functionality with iDrive controller.

Gesture control is awesome and use it all the time. My favorite is the middle finger one.

In 3 years of ownership I have never used the touchscreen, but I'm not a big fan of touchscreens in general. Everything I need to do I can do easily with the control wheel and buttons, and I think it's easier to do that than reach for a touchscreen when you're driving.

I also agree, my GF would be clueless about using iDrive since doesn't drive my vehicle very often.

I appreciate everyone's input on the question I asked.
I use touchscreen and iDrive 50/50 . There are situations, for example having asked BMW to drive to a location, when options are presented on the screen and a simple tap allows instant progress, touchscreen is also useful for music and some other apps. In fairness I am right handed and drive in the U.K. so the iDrive is less easy to use. I do however use iDrive when accessing main menus and system options.

Imho If touchscreen delete and other missing tech options are temporary and will return then anyone buying a car during current difficulties will see a big hit on resale prices. Nobody will want an X3 if it doesn’t have tech found in most cheaper cars. I would wait, take a short term lease. Sorry, I know some will hate this comment.

I would tend to agree with this statement, and as a regular CPO buyer, I am not looking forward to the next crop of vehicles when it comes time for me to purchase. That being said, I am assuming my next vehicle will be new and electric...
