PSA: iOS 15.X will not work with *Non-MFi Certified* Ethernet Adapters for Coding

Edit:
jzmundy

indicated a reasonably priced adaptor that will work with iOS 15. It appears the adaptor has to be MFi certified with Apple in order to work with the new iOS.

If I end up getting it, I will post back with results.

Original Post
Just FYI, I upgraded my iPhone Xs Max to iOS 15.1 yesterday and my ODBII to Ethernet adapter no longer works.

I did some searching online and it seems that many are having this issue.

What this means is Bimmercode/Bimmerlink/Bootmod3/etc. will no longer work if you are using an ethernet cable with adaptor (it will not get an IP address).

From what I have read, it seems Apple is in no rush to fix this. Apparently there is a Belkin adapter that works (for $100).

As a workaround, luckily I had an old iPhone 6+ which tops out at iOS 12.x so I loaded Bimmercode on that and was able to code my X3MC.

I assume everything will work with one of the supported wireless adapters.

But if you plan on coding, don't upgrade your iOS until you do or use an old device. Or plan to get a Belkin cable.

Here's one reference

Posted this in another thread, but I was able to successfully code via BimmerCode and this adapter on my iPhone 12 Pro running 15.1.

I knew I had my phone on manual update all these years for a reason! Thank you for the heads up!

Exactly. Mine has also worked this whole time.

OP needs to calm down with the excessively dramatic sky is falling PSA.

An easy search on here would show yes it does work and no you don't need a $100 adapter.

FYI, I tried to reflash with my daughter’s iPhone running iOS 14.8 since the adapter I got from xph with the tune no longer works with 15.1 but now I get a OBD is outdated message. Bm3 support says they are waiting for the App Store to approve their latest update so fingers crossed it works whenever it’s approved. Too bad the existing app is bricked essentially while in apple approval limbo.

Uhg. I’ve had Apple kill so many devices and software. The one I’m most sore about is CarMinder (developer abandoned it and previous 14.x update killed it).

I’ve yet to find another maintenance app that is as good.

Unfortunately I have to update my iOS for remote access to work.

I ordered the adapter mentioned above and was able to code where my old one failed. Thanks for the recommendation!
