Dash cam Hard wiring problem

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Trying to hard wire Thinkware dash cam to fuse box under passenger glove box. Have read all the threads and they had great info. I’m running my BATT wire to F27 and my ACC wife to F46. Grounded to metal screw. Getting no power at plug. Dash cam works cause tested it with cig lighter cord. Any thoughts from the pics? Thx for any help!

You should ground it somewhere else. You're mounting that ground against plastic. Technically the only thing allowing the flow of electricity is the eyelet against the nut which is only held on by the threads. Technically that should be good but not ideal. Use another ground that is metal/metal on both sides and not plastic. Get a volt meter and check your power and ground with the ignition on (3 clicks off the start stop button)

Thx for the input. There is actually a metal plate on the other side of the screw and washer - so the ground is between the metal plate and the washer. But have no problems looking for another place.

Couple of suggestions: use a voltage meter and check for the power and ground at both of your fuse taps (that is, check it at the wire exiting the fuse tap); check the fuse you have in your fuse tap to ensure it is good.

Thx that was my next step - so you mean test where the end of tap wire is before the splice?

Yes. That way you ensure that you have a properly seated the tap, have the polarity correct, have tapped the proper fuse, have a fuse that is good, etc. Also, I recommend once you have it all 'vetted' you solder the 'splice' or at a minimum you carefully use electrical tape to ensure the splice doesn't become undone do to the bouncing around of your X3.
