Drive Assistant Professional - Lane Change

I think DAP works fairly well, certainly better than the equivalent system on our Volvo S90, but does anyone else think the lane change feature is a bit aggressive on "how" it changes lanes (not when)?

I haven't had the guts to test it in real life yet. I just about crap my pants trying to use parking assistant. I'm still getting used to the shifter coming from an Acura automatic.

It is aggressive most of the time, but I check and make sure I see what it sees.

FWIW, I'm sure there was a lot of data that went into the timing of it - ie... the opening that the car "sees" will expire. The aggressive lane change is to make sure that the action takes place while the allowable conditions are still present.

I can follow that logic. It doesn't bother me as the driver as much because I anticipate it, but it bothers my wife, and I can see why.

I used it on the way home tonight and yes it is a bit much. I can only imagine my wife will not like it either...

Some features on X3 DAP are not supported/disabled in the UK market such as lane change assist and traffic light recognition.

I finally got to get some highway time in today and overall I'm very happy with the DAP. I picked a few very open spots to try the lane change and thought it worked quite well. I also like the amount of information displayed on the dash and the way the steering wheel controls worked.

I don't know if the quickness of the lane change is dependent upon the traffic. I'd like to think BMW would err on the side of caution on that.

I don't disagree with your take, and one would think BMW would be overly cautious, but at least on my vehicle, the lane change assist errs on the aggressive side (this coming from a self-admitted, moderately aggressive driver).

If you've tried it when there's no traffic around do you still think it's too aggressive?

When I work up my courage I'll try it in some heavier traffic. Not impossible they made it situation/condition dependent.

Hmmm….could be. I'll test that again in an open road scenario.
