I'll be honest, my Steinhart Ocean 1 GMT (Rolex "Steve McQueen" homage) and Spinnaker (Blancpain Fifty Fathoms homage) have been keeping my Panerai 005 in the watch box for the past several months.

Its great to talk about watches and nice expensive ones but be VERY VERY careful when you do!! Why, what is he on about?

Well many will take their photo with a smartphone which will embed the GPS data in it (visible in the EXIF), which is great when YOU want to know where the photo was taken but NOT when you don't want people to know where you live WITH that expensive watch.

So be VERY VERY careful when you are sharing ANY photo from a smartphone as it can easily tell everyone where you live with your nice expense item, be that a watch car or more especially some of the more expensive items on here!

You can export photos removing geo-location data fairly easily but please everyone make sure you do this before you post on a forum as its really easy to give a thief your location if you don't and they DO look for watch threads, high end cars and more to find out where its easy to steal them.

BEWARE!!

Pretty sure if you use the attachment feature on this forum the EXIF data gets erased. But, yeah, if you hotlink from another site that is certainly possible.

It doesn’t do that no, all the EXIF data is still there on attached images. To test I tried one person; from the photos I could tell you not only where they live but also work due to the GPS data in the attached images. Many social media sites remove it on upload, this forum doesn’t.

Can only warn people, the rest is up to you.

I, too, have a Rolex...

EDIT - I guess i should post some of my actual watches. I like to keep it fun, buy/sell/trade these like pokemon cards (except for a select few), and try not to spend over a grand on any particular watch so I don't go overboard.

I had no idea about this. Thanks for the info. How do you remove the geo location from a photo then?

It depends on the device you are using.

- On a Mac you can export photos and select to remove the data.
- On an iPhone / iPad you can look at the info of the photo and select location data and then select no location - not the place it was originally recorded on.

Presume on Android it’s similar mr Google will help I’m sure.

Another way is to turn off location services or turn on the privacy for the camera app to not record the location when taking it. This isn’t great if you want to know where the photo was taken later though. Airplane mode can work as the photos is being taken as well.

Forums like this should really put some sticky’s up to help people these days or add the removal on attached photos in future. Facebook et al strip the data out if anyone is worried, FB knows when it’s uploaded though.

These are in my current collection. I wear the sea dweller the most. Both need a good polishing.

As I mentioned the current and boring Apple Watch, and enjoying all the other Pics, the old ones reminded me of one of my favorites.

My old Pac Man watch. It had the time and a game mode. I had it for a short time in the 80s. I will have to see if I still own it.

When dressing up or otherwise wishing to look a bit more polished, I grab my Certina DS-1:

For casualwear, and just for fun, I have this comparatively simple watch that pays homage to a mobile game I like:

Bonus: Now this watch doesn't fit my wrist anymore, but I used all my allowance money to buy it from the Nintendo Power catalog back in the day and I'll never part with it.

Thanks for that. I use an iPhone, I’ve just checked that my camera and photos have location services set as never, so that should mean the data location can’t be obtained then.
