Okay, i guess if ain't broken then leave it alone. Maybe the replacement then becomes "discretionary" and still get paid somehow...

The antenna had to be painted to match and resealed on the roof. I hope this is a permanent fix.
Mine didn't get a new battery

Dealer sent mine out to local bodyshop for paint and epoxy. Service adviser hinted that they are using different epoxy for seal than original factory, but no confirmation.
The problem is not the glue. It was the way the paint was applied to the shark fin. Usually when this issue occurs the paint on the shark fin where the glue adheres to literally comes off the shark fin, staying stuck on the glue.

Fix is to sand down the shark fin mating surface, remove old glue and then reseal with windshield glue. Done several of these on G05, G07 and G01

OH....so it leaks between the bottom of the shark fin and the released paint?
meanwhile the cracked off paint has a waterproof seal to the epoxy and roof of the car........

Hope the bodyshop didn't paint the bottom of my new shark fin!

Correct. If it was primed and painted correctly, then you'll be fine. The issue was that the paint or the primer was not installed properly. Which caused it to not bind properly to the actual shark fin. Resulting it it separating completely and the paint now staying stuck onto the glue and the shark fin come off. I've popped shark fins clean off, the paint fully attached to the glue.

Now been 10 weeks without the car, hire car of a Volvo XC40 that BMW uk are paying for. If I’d have purchased a Volvo I’d be £150 a month better off.

Currently parts are on order / every week they get pushed back. Getting really hacked off with lack of comms/management of my expectations/them taking money for me to be driving around in a Volvo

Just an update - car still at garage waiting on parts - now > 4 months I've been without the car. I've raised complaints with BMW Uk Customer Service and BMW Financial Services.

Both of which in short say they can only deal with the complaint once car is repaired ......

that sucks!
interesting though......my dealer gave me back the car with an nonworking module after replacing the shark fin antenna and waiting on the part. I hated the car without a working mic.

Hey dude,

I'm having the exact same issue atm, being threatened with the a £2200+ bill if the shark fin is bearing water which is linked to removal due to wrapping.

Car is only 1 year old but they are claiming warranty is invalid.

How did you proceed in the end, and what was your findings? Please share.

WHAT! I started to go off, but then held back until we know what my issue is.
Dont suppose you had an external wrap?

Warranty should cover water leaks provided you haven't removed the antenna or tampered with the seal in any way?

Mind busting init

I ended up trading the x3 in for a x5 m50i but I had the dealer fix the issue. They said that the factory shark fin was warped. I would honestly just find a dealership that understands that there was an issue with these shark fins from the factory instal.

If it was removed due to wrapping the vehicle and not properly adhered, then surely you understand that it is not a factory defect? I've seen some companies wrap a car a reattach the shark fin with 3M tape.... it will always leak. Needs to be windshield glue or an actual bead of adhesive. Not tape.

Just got the error message yesterday "Emergency Call System Malfunction". This sucks as I am only at 2800 miles on the odometer. I'm hoping it's just the TCU battery but I imagine it's going to be the TCU water damage, just guessing here. Scheduled Oct 17 for service, will see then what the deal is. Glad to see others have had the issue and I understand what to look for if the dealer has to remove the interior liner/sharkfin.

I received this error on my 2019 G01 that is 3 months and 2k miles out of the factory warranty, but has CPO thru June 2023. Dealer says it's not covered under the CPO warranty due to "external factors". CPO exclusions indicate "water damage" but if it's caused by a faulty shark fin seal, why wouldn't it be covered? $2400 estimate.

Anyone have a similar experience? Should I try another dealer? I have one that I trust a bit more, but it's a pain to get to.

If your GPS location is also not accurate, then your shark fin is likely letting water in and the GPS antenna and the TCB can get damaged

GPS had one glitch that I noticed, but has been ok otherwise. Only symptom I've noticed is intermittent ConnectedDrive and app update issues. But not huge issues.

Yup, GPS isn't working at all. Dropping car off tomorrow just for them to tell me what I already know. Will need a new TCU and possibly new antenna, depending on how bad the water damage is. Just hope the wait isn't too awfully long for the new TCU.

Looks like I may have just a bad TCU component. Dealer said they took the bad one apart and no water damage and no water under shark fin. Fortunately, the new one is being installed tomorrow. I am hopeful that they are correct that it "just went bad". Don't really trust folks anymore with providing solid attention to detail. I have a gut feeling I will be back in for the same issue at some point, crossing my fingers that it doesn't happen.

All, didn't see this in the thread so thought I would attach for ref. Per freshxdough, this bulletin explains the malfunction and fixes, with pictures (worth a thousand words). Just got mine back from the dealer, and everything is good. Checked headliner yada yada. I didn't have to reset mybmwapp, everything connected. I am however going to have to recode some things as they reset all my settings...first world problems.

Can it just be dropped from the back with a pano roof?
Message I get is 'Emergency call system not available'.
Any tips on removing side panels?
I really don't want to pay the dealer £500 to replace the battery
