X3MC vs X3M!
X3 or X4, whatever your cup of tea may be...
Between the M comp and M base, why choose one over the other? I'm presuming everyone wants the M seats and probably the majority want the 21" wheels on the M base, so that would put the price difference between base and comp at about $2000 over 36 months of lease. Make it about $2600 if you don't want 21" wheels. Purchase price difference is around $4000. None of this factors in discounts. That's not a lot of money either way and if $2000 or a little more over a 36 month lease is all that separates the two, why chose one over the other? Do we know if the base has a slightly softer ride? Is the comp exhaust significantly better than the base? Is that $55-70 (approximately) per month a big enough savings to go base or is there some other reason to not go comp? Haven't really seen this debate yet so why base or why comp? |

The way I look at it
$7,000 $1950 seat upgrade $1200 21" Wheels $500 Black trim/side mirrors (thats what a lot of companies charge for what you get) $1500 M Sport exhaust upgrade personally I would want all those options if there was no comp package, so thats $5,150 which basically means you are paying about $1850 for the tune. now over a lease that depends on how good your lease is. I am paying for 36.7% of my cars MSRP (tax included), so the $7,000 upgrade is really costing me $2569.00(a little less if you back out the tax and lease interest), well worth it. Someone once told me that if you get your car close to starting msrp without many options buying it is the way to go, if you get it loaded out towards the top of its range its better to lease because a lot of the options see almost no return after 3-4 years. Sort of like buying the most expensive house in a neighborhood I guess, haha. |

I plan to order a non-comp.
Despite the attractive color options available only with the sport seats, I expect they will be less comfortable on longer rides and more difficult for my elderly parents to negotiate, so the non-sport seats are better for my application. There are all-season tire options for the 20" wheels which are unavailable with the 21" alternatives, and I live in a climate where summer tires cannot safely be used year-around on a daily driver. I don't find the minute performance distinction between the two compelling and the black trim, while nice, is only cosmetic and provides no functional difference. I ordered a non comp since I don't want the 21" wheels and it will be plenty quick. Both models are great though. The price difference for my build non comp versus comp was $5k and there's a lot I can do with that. Didn't lease. But yes, I will miss the exhaust and hate the chrome trim pieces until I switch them.
My build is: Donington Black Merino Exec pack M Sport seats Mobility kit |

I ordered X3M Comp, because:
- Not much price difference. - Better suspension, seats (As when I drove customer's F90 M5 vs F90 M5 Competition, I like how the Competition suspension feels). I think just those 2 reasons.

I picked up a non comp because so didn't want to pay for replacing the 21" tires. All the black trim I plan on changing to carbon anyway. And the hp difference is extremely minimal so that's irrelevant to me the price difference on a lease was just too much to justify as most parts will be relaxed anyway . You still get the seats and 21's without going comp so ..

The local dealer had a Toronto Red comp in stock...and the flesh is weak. So I got a comp.

X3M Base with metallic paint, 21" wheels, M seats, and heated steering wheel is ~$54 less per month on lease than the equivalent X3M Comp. If one plans to black out the trim pieces on the X3M base, that monthly difference lowers to about $34 over 36 months. In that scenario, I'm not seeing a good enough financial reason to go with the base model.

A base model with zero options (don't need them, really) = $69000. That's just a couple thousand over a loaded m40i. That's where the value is at, IMO.

You wouldn't even go for the M seats? And personally I think 20" wheels have no place on a modern high performance SUV but that's just my preference. I think I might pick a loaded M40i over a no option base X3M but would have to drive them. |

Non-Comp why?
- Extra Power will be had with a Tune - Handling will be better than Comp with KW HAS suspension Had an M3 Comp w/ KW HAS suspension and Custom Tune Now have M5 non-Comp w/ KW HAS suspension and handles better than M5C

So, dad has a budget msrp of 70,950 meaning base X3 M only no options. Unfortunately means no sport seats. But have things coming such as competition grilles, badge and exhaust tips will then get rid of the chrome. Hopefully the 20 inch wheels makes the ride a little more comfortable as well as the non sport seats.

I had non comp M4 and with the cost of retrofitting the wheels / exhaust / tune / cosmetic bits, I learned that it makes sense to go with the comp to begin with. Especially on a lease. Both are great cars though!

Ordered a loaded X3M....other than stiffer motor mounts, suspension, sport exhaust (imo, I could tell much difference) and 30hp...what am I not getting vs the Comp?
Currently I plan to swap all chrome for Carbon look and add a Racechip. Thanks |
