I hope some of the M3 XDrive cry babies shut up now. Hopefully we can get low 11s stock.

Maybe I'm just getting old. I get the fun of comparing fraction-of-second differences in 1/4-mile times and acceleration results. But making buying decisions based on them? Not so much, especially so for SUVs. A tiny fraction will ever see the track. Of those, virtually none will participate in any time trials or wheel-to-wheel racing where those fractional differences may make any difference. Most who are interested in drag racing won't be buying a SUV. The chances of a X3M meeting a GLC63 or an SVR at a stop light and both deciding to race on a public street are fairly low too. All of these are ridiculously fast and have acceleration and handling capabilities that cannot be safely approached on public streets and highways. So when deciding which one to buy, I care much more about daily usability, ride balance between performance and comfort, sound, size, appearance, convenience features, etc. And, of course, cost.

But it is, indeed, impressive that we have SUVs from several manufacturers that will outrun the M3s and M5s of recent generations.

More room, more space, more comfort, more weight and faster than the new 2020 Toyota Supra. The new Supra trapped the 1/4 mile at 108-109 MPH in some recent videos. These numbers are pretty impressive for this X3M. Beats the old Macan GTS too Was that the new Mercedes CLS on the left hand side at 121 MPH..?

Probably not, my money is on this thing falling flat on its face after the 1/4 mile.. anything with 500hp and 4x4 will launch like crazy and taper off hard at higher speeds, especially weighing nearly as much as an F-150

Well said. Hopefully most don't make a buying decision on the fractional performance differences, but I gotta admit I enjoy researching the engineering and design that goes into trying to make an SAV an enjoyable performance ride. Personally, cargo volume has a lot to do with our decision and the SVR and X3M lead in this group. Then a lot comes down to individual experiences. We owned a number of BMWs for years, then moved around to different Mnfrs for awhile, but came back to BMW after not finding that perfect fit for us. The X3 series checks those boxes, and the X3M now brings it to another level of performance which should improve the driving experience. That, and the cost (c/w MB and Porsche), and the local Dealership availability so we don't have to drive distances like we would with Jaguar and AR, all went into our decision.

I wouldn't bet a lot of money on that drop off after a quarter mile with the X3MC. At around 30 sec the Sim shows it at 163.1 mph and already a mile out.

Is that the definition of 4x4... a vehicle that can switch from rwd to 4wd by the flick of a switch?

Any vehicle that can switch from rwd to 4wd is a 4x4. The same system is on my F-150 just doesn't have a fancy dancy name like BMW

I don't think anyone would make a buying decision on just 1/4 mile speed or fraction of a second in acceleration. If that was the case I'd own other cars. We'd be buying a Dodge or something plastic and cheap. It's simply crazy how these cars are progressing in power you couldn't find 10 yrs ago without the car being a single purpose/weekend uncomfortable car you couldn't daily drive.

All very valid reasons. After more than two decades of devoted BMW M ownership (and racing), the Jag will be uncharted waters for me but looking forward to it. Like I said elsewhere, no bad choices to be made here. A year ago I was eyeing a beautiful Macan Turbo that a friend is going to sell with very low miles and an intoxicating exhaust. Then drove the GLC63 and that made the Macan feel slow (after the e60 M5 I am proof of the adage that absolute power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely), plus the GLC sounds wonderfully mental. So for several months was six months was leaning strongly toward the GLC63, perhaps even the coupe. (Eliminated the Alfa due to its interior, electronics and lack of local dealer.) Then decided to wait to see what the X3M/X4M would offer. Happened on the Jag during that process. A fortunate test drive sealed the deal.

Also don't forget how bad MB dealers and their service are. Here in metro Detroit the two stealers are brothers and terrible rip off artists that have been threatened twice by MB USA to pull their dealerships. Just awful.

We got to take the X3M on the drag strip during the BMW Track Days. Definitely felt faster than all the others. It's impressive to say the least.
