2014 X3 N55 Drive Train Malfunction

During hard acceleration there was a loud springing sound and sudden significant loss of power. I limped the car home with it making frequent auto gear changes. Any ideas? There is a three month warranty on the used vehicle. It will head into the dealership (Mini, next door to the BMW one) where I bought it. What comes to mind is a timing slip.

Pull the codes and see what it says and post back up. Loud springing sound, huh? Did you inspect everything for possible damage?

No opportunity. The car is parked as I have four 12.5 hour days (plus 1.5 hours round trip commute) in a row before I can do anything. I'll be driving my F250 until the X3's into the shop and I have a loaner. Unfortunately I don't have the hardware to pull the codes.

Wild guess you had a charge pipe failure.

Well, hopefully that is it. 88K miles and close to six years, it sounds likely from what I'm reading. Now if they'd consider a metal one instead of the stock plastic.

Is FTP available in the US or only out of Taiwan?

Not sure.

I ordered mine from their Taiwanese website. It was delivered in 4 days.

Here's an update; the Mini dealership approved the replacement using the FTP parts. They will reimburse me for their cost of the OEM part (actually more expensive). I footed the bill for the high speed shipment. Should be here early next week.

I know it should be obvious from the photo but it was accidental that I ordered the boost pipe as well. Both are being installed and I should be back in business tomorrow. The dealership charged $200 for the extra install. Hopefully that will end the woes caused by rubber/plastic degradation around the turbo and cooler.
