Best drop-in filter is?
Now i’m aware that the answer is OEM filter and I have browsed endlessly in the forums regarding a good drop-in filter but I’d like to ask this question again.
The reason you might ask, I have a maintenance plan on my M40i and the OEM filter will only be replaced every 30,000kms which appears to be a long time imo. I do have the FTP turbo inlet pipe installed and I do not plan on buying a $600 MST intake. Although I know Mike at XPH will give me a sweet deal, I just don’t want to run an aftermarket intake as it’s completely pointless plus my options are very limited with the FTP turbo inlet pipe installed. I just want a tad extra spool sound. I plan on running the OEM filter in winter time and drop-in during summertime. In Canada, they throw a bunch of sand during winter time so I won’t risk a drop-in filter during those times. I checked FCP euro and the OEM filter is actually the price of a dinan drop-in filter. Technically, dinan drop-in will be cheaper as after USD to CAD conversion and duties, I pay less overall as that filter is available in Canada. However, after learning the fact that dinan’s drop-in filter is made by K&N, i’m a bit skeptic about its filteration performance after watching this video made by YouTuber Sergiu Gabor showing how inefficient the K&N filter is. Plus it’s an oiled filter. aFe Pro Dry S is a great option but pricey and I read somewhere on the forums that someone found filter particles in their oil analysis report after running the Pro Dry S. I used it in the past with my N52 and it was great but idk how I would feel spending $150 for basically nothing. Not sure if AEM’s filter will fit and appears to be a dryflow filter. AEM did perform great in the test as shown in the video unless I am mistaking it with a different AEM product. It’s about the price of two Dinan filters but is washable but then I need to buy its cleaning kit (non oiled). BMC appears to be expensive as well after taxes, shipping, custom duties etc. So, here I am in front of you fine folks, asking the question which filter will be a good fit for my summertime use? - continue with OEM intervals and forgo aftermarket? - get AEM then clean & reuse during summertime? - dinan drop-ins are good and I should get it? - Any other brand out there that is cost effective giving me that spooly spool sound? |

I have the afe pro dry filter for my 2019 lying around. Not sure what the size difference between your 2020 and my 2019 air box is but if you can find out, you can have mine...just pay for shipping 😆

Well not brand new but lightly used(used for less than a month) before I went mst. They are washable I believe if you incline to do so.

I'd just buy the corresponding Mann air filter for our cars since they make them for BMW.

I’ve got an oem and a K&N for the factory B58 G01/G02 LCI airbox
If you’re not on my short list of idiots here you’re welcome to either or both for usps shipping cost from 96816 My guess is $20 +/- $5 ea If both then they might fit in the usps large box Maybe 100 miles on each before I swapped to a forum member’s custom set up dcchris311 thanks again for the awesome intake! |

I just changed my engine air filter with 25,000 miles on it since I last changed it (48,000 total miles on my 2020 X3 i30). I did it myself rather than paying the "insane" $200 the dealer wanted to charge. The "old" filter looked clean as new, which makes me wonder why I changed it out in the first place, but I had already accessed the old one I figured "might as well".
I also have a new Cabin Air filter that I was going to replace at the same time, but after seeing how clean the engine air filter was, and not having any cabin AC or heating issues, I decided to save my back and hold off on it. I'm sure air filters in more hostile environments need frequent changing but evidently not mine. |

Now since the province takes its sweet aHsS time in cleaning the sand on the road post wintertime, we get literal sand storms during springtime. Thus, I will 1000% run OEM filter in wintertime. I believe my cabin filter will be replaced very soon when i go for my 30,000kms service. Probably full of sand and pollens as well |
