I've always found you need to step back about an arm's length behind the badge and kick in and out quite quickly.

I have consistently failed to get it to work. But it works every time for my partner.

However, this morning I accidentally dropped the charge cable under the bumper, and that triggered it…

I have good success with this method, probably 9 out of 10 times provided I am stood in the correct position. If I am stood too close then it will fail more often than not until I move back. Strange thing is that probably 9 out of 10 times I have a hand free to push the button that works 100% of the time!!!

The car uses the tailgate camera to check what you are carrying. If your hands are full it disables the kick function...

You might be right I think it can also tell when you drop something so it can try and smack you on the head!

Just tried this, stepping back works! I think it won't open if you are so close to the boot that it would hit you in the face if it did open.

Watched a Youtube video, spent 15 minutes trying to get it to work, then realised I don't have it on a Premier......

No didn't bother me at all, all that waving my foot about underneath for no benefit at all.

At least it provided some entertainment to the other shoppers in the Tesco car park! They may even have it on CCTV!
