Wheel fitment iX3 and BMW 892 M ('22 X3M Competiton wheels)

Hi,

I am considering the X3M wheels, the 892M model, for the 2022 iX3. Officially they are not compatible, but I have seen several M40 models with these wheels mounted.

Are there any differences in the fender, wheel well or suspension clearance between the X3 models that suggest that the 892M will not physically fit on the iX3?

I am aware of possible wheel load capacity issues.

For the front axle, the 892M will have the following impact compared to the 20" 890M:
  • Tire 10mm closer to suspension
  • Rim 24mm closer to suspension
  • Rim sticks out 14mm more towards the fender
  • Approx scrub radius is -6mm

I guess electric car owners do not know much about wheel fitment 😉

Anyway, I borrowed a pre LCI iX3 and a set of 892 M wheels. They do fit. The clearance to the suspension in the front was reduced by 24mm lesing only 6mm between the tire (255 Michelin PS4) and the suspension. But that is enough.

No, the BMW 892M are 21 inch. I can however confirm that they do fit perfectly. No issues.

Where did you source the 892M wheels?

Awesome!

Since the last post I have now moved on to the G08 M-Sport - and I am not loving the 890M design.

When I was waiting for my new iX3 I was drooling over a X3M at the dealership. And these 892M looked stunning.

I would be a bit concerned with regards to the 9,5" wheel in front - it is quite a bit wider than the standard 8". But it fits?

And how about the load capacity? Any numbers for the 892M? As I have been informed they need to be able to cope with a load of at least 825 kg per wheel.

Sorry about the super-late reply, but as I confirmed above, the 9.5" wheel in front does fit with approximately 6mm to go.

There are no published numbers on the load capacity. They have not broken down after 6000 km, but have not tested hitting a pothole at high speeds or anything extreme.
