Switch the right mirror by an auto-dimming one

Hi all,

Since the right miro is not auto-dimming for LHD cars, I was wondering how the system works and if it would be possible to switch the glass with one from a UK model which is auto-dimming for the right side. If yes, would it be plug & play ?

Nah, I don't think so. Probably needs wiring which I don't think is put there during production, only for RH drive models. Interesting to check out anyway, don't know how though :P .

The dimming feature would not work because there is no wiring to connect to the mirror glass on the right side exterior mirror.

I'm more interested in a higher quality material. My drivers side mirror is immaculate, but passenger side has this "blemishy" haze that appears to be a disintegration of the surface of the mirror.

This thread talks about the use of a functional dimming mirror for the right side door mirror. I'm not sure you're on the same page as what this thread is talking about...

It sounds like you just need a new factory mirror glass.

I'm no mind reader, but I think Alias believes that the dimming mirror is of higher quality than non-dimming mirror, hence perhaps he is looking to buy a dimming-mirror, though with no dimming mirror functionality? Would that be possible?

Say I buy a UK right review mirror, which on their market would be a dimmable one, though of course, my car being LH, wouldn't have the wiring for a functional dimmable mirror. Would I still be able to install a dimming mirror on my right review mirror, even though I would be aware of the fact that it wouldn't be functional dimming mirror? Would it even have any "dimming" functionality even though not wired?

The glass will still fit. But if it's for a RHD car, the magnification of the mirror will be different than the normal glass for a LHD car. So not only will you be replacing the glass with a dimming glass, but now the perception through the mirror will also change. Whether that's for the better or worse, that's up to you to decide.

Basically. I'm wondering if the passenger side mirror is plastic, hence fading, and the driver's side is glass, which is why it's still perfect. Pure speculation.

No they are both made to the same quality.
