So the inner DRL can be accessed just by lifting the hood and removing some plastic covers (10 min job). However The outer DRL you need to lift the car, remove wheel, wheel liner, partially remove the bumper and move the headlight in order to get to the other module.

Did you have to remove the bumper for the outer DRL?

No, but it was a pain in the butt to remove the casing that’s house the modules.

This marks my 4th time doing the installation, and I was able to do this one module in less than an hour.

Take your wheel off and pop your hood.

Undo all these rivets to remove this covering.

Remove these rivets and bolts to release the wheel well liner.

Unscrew this Torx bolt that holds the headlight.

This one also secures the headlight so you can unscrew this. On this last go around, I unscrewed the bolt and left it in-place.

Unscrew these two bolts that secure the bumper to the fender. This will allow you to pull out the bumper partially.

Remove the bolt circled in red because it secures the headlight. The red arrow points to another Torx bolt situated deeper in the void. I believe this connects the bumper but I'm not positive (I went ahead and removed it anyways). You can remove the yellow Torx screws as well. Since I'm only doing one side, I only removed half on this side but if you're doing both I would remove them all.

This is the torx screw in the "void". [...]
My God, what a pain in the ass. End result is definitely worth it though.
Looks stunning on your ride. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

Fyi there is another vendor on ALI now whose modules look exactly like the Bayoptiks ones. I ordered a set a few days ago. Will report once I get them installed. $175.

Actually they are all made by sunexpressltd, the only place that produces them, and everyone just buys of them and rebrands, how most vanilla label brands work.

Yes. Inner DRL's are right on top of the light and are easy to change.

The outers are a pain in the butt. Also, others haven't mentioned, but I found out this weekend, when removing your inner fender, you have to pop out 4 plastic rivets. They're real rivets and are one use only, so, before you start this, source at least 8 of those rivets from Amazon or someone else. I'm saying at least 8 because it is 4 per side, but we ended up losing 2, due to them being cheap.

I say cheap, because in a panic, I went to Amazon on Saturday afternoon to source rivets that would be delivered the next day. Ideally, if I ever have to do this again, I would go to BMW and get a bunch of their rivets before I start pulling it apart.

Can’t say I’m a fan of the jaundice look, but to each his own, but I think if these came this way oem from factory, this thread would be retitled to “changing to bright white drl’s”

it’s in reference to the recent CS models (namely the M5 CS, M4 CSL, M3 CS). if those special edition models didn’t come with the yellow lights this trend wouldnt have taken off.

Finally got around to installing my yellow DRLs and noticed I only had 2 boards in my packaging . That pretty much put the project on hold until I could get an answer . I received an answer that my 2021 only has 1 board for each side . Question I have is the location of the module itself . Is it located in the same place as the '22+ models ?

The pre-lci install has been discussed in this thread. You can reference post 64 and earlier for some comments.

I just caught another error with my third replacement board

Reached out to icedriver yesterday when it happened and they said they will send yet another replacement board.

If they don't send it out with a business day or so I'll be reverting back to stock. Too much of a headache at this point unfortunately.

Is the seller sharing any info on the (root) cause at all, i.e. what is/are failing on the board?

Not with me. This time they said they'll "update the products" and send me a new board.

I honestly don't know what that means but I'm sure they are just grabbing a board from inventory and shipping it out. It may just be that I'm unlucky.

OK, once or twice... sure, bad luck.
But 3x come on, that's not just coincidence.

Is it the same board/location every time?

I received new boards and the passenger side lasted a week and now my low beam isn’t working. I think, I’m going back to stock to much of a headache for me too.

1st replacement boards were for all 4 because, I'm guessing, they sent the wrong ones for US folks.

2nd and 3rd replacements were only for my driver side turn signals. My passenger side boards have been fine since the 1st replacements were sent so I do believe they produce functioning, nondefective boards.

I received my set but haven’t installed them yet, will try this weekend and post up some pics. Anyone know how to remove the factory boards from the heat sink? I don’t want to ruin the factory boards if I want to go back to stock. Any advice would be appreciated. I’m sure some will say just don’t bother
