X3 M40i - Demo - Lease Offer

Hi Guys (need some urgent help!)

Was hoping I could poll the audience and get some feedback.

I'm in a unique situation in that my current car (not a BMW) is well over the mileage limit on the lease and I'm under pressure to buy myself out.

I have an order on an Alfa Stelvio - but won't get state-side until April.

After some considerable back and forth, here is the 2019 X3 M40i deal I've been offered (loaner car with 2k miles on it):

63k MSRP: - Apparently after a mark down of 17% - the offer on the table is 4K out of pocket of which 1k includes the BMW lease fee etc: for 36 months (1 month free - so additional 1% discount) and 12k miles per year - $630 per month.

Is that a great deal or an average deal? A bit bummed the 19 has 27 less HP than the 20, but the car has the 21" rim - which I happen to love, although highly impractical.

So in summary it was pitched as: $7,500 discount and $3,500 in rebates.

Any guidance or feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Between the two, you aren't going to feel the HP difference in such a heavy vehicle. So don't feel you missed out.

Thanks - figured it was a mental thing, but I can get over that!

It's the pricing that is bothering me a bit, but maybe the offer on hand is a good one??!

To be honest, I think you have some more room.. Ask the dealer what the MF is. Should be around .00142

Awesome - thanks.

I've gotta imagine there are limited buyer prospects for an x3 M40i that's a demo and has the 21s in the Northeast.

He's at $630, I'm at $610 in my head.

Using leasehackr
With a 63K MSRP and 17% off
12,000 Miles/year puts you at roughly 56 or 57 residual
With good credit, MF in the .00142 ballpark
4K down

You should be somewhere in 530-550 range.

Thats with a 8.4% sales tax.

Unless I'm missing something of course

So they're giving you 11.9% off MSRP (63K less $7,500) on a demo with 2K miles? Or are they giving 17% off?

If it's the former, that's not an aggressive discount and I'd counter.

A detailed breakdown of the numbers would make evaluating your offer easier to comment:

MSRP
Discount (not including incentives)
Selling price (MSRP less discount)
Incentives
MF
3/36 Residual for 2019: 56%

Current incentives on 2019 M40i is $2750 lease credit.

What's the 4K out of pocket? Is that acquisition, NY sales taxes, titles, tags and dealer fees?

That's not an aggressive discount and I'd counter with 14. You should find out what MF they're basing your lease on.

Thanks.

62.6k msrp
$7,500 discount (11.9%)
$3,500 in incentives - you're right, need a break out on this. I know they are picking up 1 month of the 36 month lease.

And yes - the $4K is taxes, title, dealer fees.

I'll find out what the money factor is in the morning.

Where do you guys think this should reasonably price? Tough to call until you have more details?

I agree with you — I got a 2020 m40i loaner (3,042 miles) last month at 15% off msrp pre-incentives. 2019 should definitely be closer to 16.5-17% pre-incentive. I'm even seeing some 2019 5 series loaners going 19-20% off pre-incentive now. My DAS was $2,500 + I put down max MSDs to lower MF. With tax my payment is $513, for OP reference.

That's helpful! I was going to initially write 15% but your deal is great reference for the OP

My credit is great. I don't have bmw loyalty - which is frustrating as last car wasn't a bmw, but previously had an e90 328i M sport, and an m235i.

Family members have several BMW's as well.

A lease broker said the best he could do was $613 with $3k down and $2k in MSD's - which I didn't think was hugely impressive.

Any other feedback? Dealer told me $630 (terms outlined above) - was his bottom line.

It will always amaze me how so many people lease or consider leasing and have not a clue how their payment is calculated or what they need to negotiate...especially since so much information/calculators are just a simple Google search away.

I feel like you can do better or at least get a new 2020 X3 m40i, which will be cheaper with the same discounts. Go get help from a broker and shop around other dealers. Rarely will you find a great deal just speaking to only one.

You can do better. A few months ago I leased almost an identical vehicle in MA (2k loaner ~63k MSRP on 19 M40i) with only 2K due at signing and $550 a month including taxes. 4K out of pocket is a lot of dough for a 630 a month payment IMO.

Cool. Thanks.

Happen to just be busy making a living, and the lease calculators have proven to be a farce in the instances I've used them.

Pretty sure the purpose of the forum (any forum really) is to use other members as a sounding board.

If you are going to play the payment negotiation game you should come up with a CAP (slight lowball) and MF you want along with your term/residual and calculate the payment you want before taxation and with no down other than reg, title, doc and first payment. This way you know what your payment should be and you will be seeing how close they can get to it.

Tons of lease calculators on the web to help.

LOL, most likely user error. Leasehackr has a good one. It isn't hard but oh well dealers need to make money too!

Thanks. Was that through a broker?

Tonight I was offered (through a broker) a 2020 at 63k - for $630 a month with 4K out of pocket.

Effectively the same deal as the 19, but a new car.

No I negotiated on my own. If you know all the information and contact 20+ dealers at least 1-2 will play ball
