M40d First Service
My vehicle has just asked for its first service after 16,000 miles. Spoken to two of my local dealers who have both quoted £355.
Oil, Oil filter and Micro filter - £355! Is it me or does that sound like a lot of money? |

Sounds about right, my X1s service same as yours was £275 and a major service £475 that was for the xdrive 2ltr d, your block has more oil so not that bad a price.

440i was higher at about 19,000. Most of my miles is steady motorway cruising at 70, but miles to service still not gone up at all. |

They do seem Low but at the same time I'd rather driver around with nice clean oil.
Mine was done at 4000 due to a sensor issue and it was filthy |

I realize that these are diesel costs...but here for petrol our interval is 10,000 Km...dealers charge about 145 bucks +15% tax...We had one completed in July at one dealer 71,048 km for 144 bucks total of 177 (102 pounds)...and recently at a different dealer at 82K, it cost 145, + 45 for the MOT and 135 for brake fluid (total 392 Cad, or 227 pounds). I declined the cabin filter as it did not need doing.
I do my own servicing once out of warranty...and what I can't do, an Indy does. You guys are gouged on vehicle cost, in both purchase and maint. Good-ole, rip-off Britain... We were at similar intervals to the UK for about 4 years...and then BMW Canada...stopped that...I believe it was the source of many timing chain stretching issues... |

Brake fluid will be set to two years. Cabin filters during the free maint period (in Canada 4 years) are changed if found dirty (basically every second visit!). Spark plugs as per CBS, which here for the X3 non M, is 60,000KM. It looks to have been a while since I had an engine air filter done...but it was not mentioned during the last service mid Jan. |

Brake fluid is after 3 years and then every 2 years. There's no free maintenance period here. Cabin filters are done on every major service. M40d's don't have spark plugs |

Crazy... I didn't know free maintence was a Canadian thing. Regular maintenance being 100% covered thru the warranty was a big reason I was stoked to get into my first BMW years ago.

Any car dealer will screw you for servicing. My GF actually got talked into air con re-pressuring by Audi for £99. The total service cost for her ikkle A1 was like nearly 500notes. You are far better getting a RENOWNED local dealer who has the diagnostic equipment to do the job for probably half the price. However not sure if they can update the service log in iDrive is the only thing (they can certainly reset the service interval). I am often amazed at how an oil change (minor service) can cost a good wedge, when you look at the "what we did" sheet and basically it was exactly that, along with checking the door hinges, lubricating the wiper lugs and all that bollocks. |
