Agree...it mostly shows the impact of aero.

When I got mine the average was always around 28mpg but since the Stage 1 remap it’s always around 33mpg but I never think about the fuel usage when driving... it’s too much fun to be bothered. But when the Mrs drives it she has it in EcoPro and it sees 38mpg.

Even 70 is fairly irrelevant, we all set our cruise control to 80, which is around 75 actual.

Try 70 though, you'd be surprised at the increase in economy. If you aren't in a mad rush the saving is significant for an extra few mins extra.

Life's too short! If I work out how much I earn per hour, the money saved over that extra time will cost me money

Which brings me to a related point. I often do the kids run every week over the hills so mix of motorway and fast a-roads. I set the nav and it says, say, 10:25. I presume it's based on speed limits, which I totally ignore. I never save more than a few mins by leathering it. One of these days I'm going to try legal (it'll be painful but just for comparison).

BTW I'm on about 35.6 now.

The way it worked for me with my 35D and now my M40i is that motorways aren't fun, rushing saves little time in reality, it's more perception. I might as well drive economically on motorways and have fun on roads where it's safe and viable to enjoy driving. Anyway that's my profile, it's not the same for everyone.

The BMW nav doesn't give any allowance for waiting at traffic lights or pulling out of junctions, hence why its arrival time is always optimistic.

Google, Apple, waze etc all give an allowance for stoppages, hence why their arrival times are always pessimistic and usually possible to beat.

I had my first long run in my M40D today, 240miles from Newcastle to Cambridge, three up plus luggage, average speed 60mph and an indicated 44mpg. Strong crosswinds throughout the drive. Connected drive shows 42lt left in the tank which was brimmed at the start of the trip, so 23lt used. Overall, very impressed although had it not been for usual follow the leader in the outside lane on the A1 from south of Leeds I dont think I would have managed over 40mpg. As for the car, tyre noise was a surprise, I'm running on 21" p zeros but my lasting impression is ... what a car! Honestly believe this is the best all round car you can buy right now, it can do it all.
