So, stupid me... should have done this a while ago. Bimmercode has an option to change it to mph. See screenshot.

Picked up a new 2020 last week. Same issue here with the speedometer changing from mph back to km/h. Dealership in Manhattan had no clue and wants me to bring the car in next week to upgrade the software. From the reaction that I received, they had never heard of this happening before.

The stupid thing here... Bimmercode just reads the stuff that's already available in the system and could be programmed with esys and a laptop. They (BMW or the dealers) just don't know that it's available.

The same digital speedometer unit issue
I am somewhat relieved to find others who are having the same issue.
I just picked up a new 2020 X3. I tried all kinds of rebooting/resetting, updating software and creating new driver profile to fix this Km/h unit issue with digital speedometer to no avail. What frustrated me even more was that the BMW Genius hotline told me to ask the local BMW service center to see if they had a fix! Two dealers told me they have never heard of such an issue. This issue is totally ruining my new car smell moment Please please share if you hear of any updates on the issue. Thank you much! |

Any idea why BMW doesn't know how to fix this and I had to fix it with Bimmercode?

Not sure. There might be an SIB about it. Don't know. Everything is software now a days so it's likely a software issue error from an update

I have a brand new X3. Had BMW update the software because of the MPH issue with the digital speedometer. Just picked up the car and it is fixed. Apparently, I can no longer delete the digital speedometer (which I do not want to do) and it stays in MPH.

Mine is completely gone now. My dealer tried to update the sw twice last week and it is now removed completely and they say I was never supposed to have it because I don't have HUD. So I actually had a feature removed because I took it in for service. Very disappointed in BMW and the dealer. I can't help but compare this experience to Mercedes service experience and I am not impressed.

I had the same issue that my digital speedometer always reset to km/h overnight. It happened after a software update 4 months ago. I brought my car to dealership 3 times and they kept saying it was a known issue and there wasn't any fix yet.
Finally, they fixed the problem last week. So it is showing mph now. |

Correct, "base" display with the physical gauges and the small digital box in the bottom center.

For all of you that had it removed, then restored, is there a service bulletin or update number you can give me? My dealer says there are no updates for 2020 X3. I frankly don't believe them based on what you all are saying. I hate that I have to tell them how to do their job, but I guess that's the reality at this point. Thanks!

I had to take my 3 series in to the dealer for a fog lamp issue (still unresolved) and I was talking to my service adviser about this issue and told him I fixed it through Bimmercode. He laughed, said BMW still hasn't issued anything about it...

MPH
When I purchased my 2020 X3 the genius told me that I needed to manually change from km to mph each time I started the car and after a couple weeks my preferred setting would be set permanently automatically. He also told me that if I shut off the auto start/stop, it would remember that option over time as well. It's been over a month and every time I start my car I still have to shut off auto start/stop and reset to MPH. Was he pulling my leg?

New 2020 X3 - same issue
I talked to my dealer as well, and they think it needs a software update. It's a little annoying to have to keep changing it every time I start up the car. The only time I've seen it stay in MPH is when I re-started the car very quickly after changing it and did I did not lock the doors (which shouldn't matter, right?).
