I agree that did help. So maybe I just need to stuff a sock up there or something when on a long drive?

BMW is taking care of the noise for me
after hearing the noise first hand while riding in my 2020 x3 M40i recently, I complained via email to BMW of North America. I received an email from a customer service rep and they scheduled service with the dealer. They had engineers look at my vehicle and ultimately decided that there is no flaw, but to accommodate me they are willing to install the acoustic glass with what I'm assuming is funds from BMW of NA, for a small fee. I've obviously read the thread about the gentleman who came out of his pocket $1000. I'm counting myself lucky and was hoping this was the solution that they would come to. I don't know if they've done this for others but I'm happy to pay the fee which is really really cheap to have the windows replaced. I just have to have my windows retinted which I can live with. I'll report back once I get my car back.

That seems like something I would be interested in. You ever try that out?

How would I recognise if front windows are acoustic or not on a used X3 I'm buying remotely?
I thought the FUYAO and E2 markings on front side windows meant that it was the acoustic glass. I remember seeing a photo of the edge of someone's acoustic glass window and it clearly showed a 'sandwich' laminate. There was an email I saw somewhere on a thread a while ago from someone who put up photos of the edge of his acoustic glass, but I could never find that post again. However a car I'm looking at has the FUYAO and E2 marking but the edge of actual glass does not look like a laminate/sandwich. Just looks like a normal window edge. (see attached photos) I'm so confused. Would be great to get advice please on how I recognise whether it actually is acoustic glass or not? thank you

Thanks Bluemark. Wish it did have it, but never mind.

Now I've had my car for about 8 weeks, I finally got the chance to drive it for a prolonged period at 110kmh. Wind noise was definitely noticeable
A wind 'rush' noise, not whistling, so I'm guessing it's the mirrors, and nothing can be done about them? I don't have the acoustic side windows

I had my M 40i since January and have learned to live with the excessive wind noise. My first clue was being able to close the door with my pinkie finger- no resistance against weatherstrip like Mercedes.

Do you think adjusting the door closure so it presses into the rubber seals might help?
The windnoise on my last 3 BMWs has been pretty noticeable (E90 LCI, X2 and current X3). Might be a BMW 'thing' On my E90 I tried things like adjusting the door closure, thickening the rubber door seals with extra foam, and triple checking the external windscreen seals. To no avail

I drove my 2020 30e today in windy condition and occasionally I had really strong wind noise from the drivers side - my first reaction was to check if the window is fully closed, then I started thinking that the door is not fully closed, but these were not the reason. I also have acoustic glass. I could not detect air coming in through the door edges. Despite the wind direction, the noise only came from the driver side.
I guess I need to talk with the dealer. |

I had the issue on my M40i as well. I concluded it was the mirrors as some have surmised - that said, I drive an X3MC now and the mirror caps are different ("m" style) and there is no noticeable wind noise now

to my knowledge all X3s have acoustic glass Windshields standard. The glass on the front side windows were replace back in Feb. It is pretty quiet, in echo mode, even at highway speeds. There is still some noise from passing cars on the highway but it's a lot better. For me it was road noise, not wind noise from the mirrors that was troubling. Best of Luck.

Would like to bump this thread as I'm having the same issue with my 22 M40i and its driving me bonkers! I've had it into the dealer for this and they replaced the rubber seal on the drivers door (that's where I hear the most noise, right over my left shoulder) and it didnt fix it at all. Sounds like whooshing wind and its really loud and annoying! Is having the dual pane glass the only solution for this?
Do the dual pane windows for the 2018 fit the 22 as well? I'm on the verge of ordering them so I can drive in peace |

Please let us know what they tell you, but I'm going to guess they will tell you its normal. I just send an email to BMW corp to see if they can help me here. I plan to do some tests today with taping off the doors and filling the door jams up to see if I can find a solution. I hate to think its the glass as the past several cars I've owned had standard single pane glass and there is no wind noise, but this BMW is insanely loud

I had seen in another thread a member saying BMW had a PUMA for this issue (meaning this is a known reported issue with appropriate fixes detailed in a worldwide database). I will make sure to mention this to the service advisor. |

It's been discussed on other threads as well… '21 X4 M40i here, and I noticed "noise" on day 1 of driving. I only really notice it from time to time these days, but, I do listen to the radio pretty much 99% of the time while in the car. If I didn't, this would probably be driving me crazy. Regardless, after doing quite a bit of reading and research, my conclusion is it's the side mirror design. Not much you can do unless you install M mirrors instead.
