Key fob cases?
Anyone here have a case for their key fob? I found this one which I really like, but not sure if it will fit the M40i key: https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...se-80232209855
I also see these two options 1. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ck-82292344033 2. https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...se-82292355519 |

I have the black one (#1 above). While it works well (no more mysterious butt- or thigh-opening of the hatch), it does add considerable thickness. At the thickest point, fob+case is around a full inch thick.

Thanks for this insight. Good to know, and now I'm leaning towards not getting a case! |

You look at the price and you know they are not authentic products!
I used to have the #1 style for my old car. The stainless steel part does look cool but it is so impractical as it adds so much thickness. The Aliexpress ones I got now actually works much better. |

the cheap one from ALIexpress failed me today - I was at the gym when someone comes up to me "is that your blue BMW? the trunk is open" Time to get the coding done that doors need to be unlocked, and un-recommending the $9 key fob from aliexpress - get the BMW version - you can find them for ~$35 - amazon among other places.

I'm still using the BMW one, and I've had no other hatch openings. Yes, it is thick, but that doesn't bother me. That's probably because I wear dad jeans with cavernous pockets. |

That appears to be the same as the Aliexpress ones (compare yours with the pics in the aliexpress listing from post #4). Decent quality, but the material is too thin and flexible to provide good protection against accidental button presses (it seems to be more useful for protection against scratches). With the key in the case, squeeze the area where the "open hatch" button is. On mine, it doesn't take a lot of force to activate the button.

Is there a way to lock the key fob (for example with multiple button push)?

We have two like these, in black:
https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ck-82292344033 They were bought for our X1 but also fit the key fobs for our new X3. They are bulky but prevent accidental button pushing. When we first bought the X1 we discovered the tailgate partially open & resting up against the power operated garage door a couple of times. Fortunately both times we narrowly avoided scraping the car paintwork so decided we needed something. |

I have the 2nd. Its pretty thick and sturdy. Though my key also comes out like the above picture after walking when I attach it to my front belt loop.

I went with the Alcantara and love it! The dealership threw it in so the price ($70) didn't phase me

But ehm... how stupid is it that we need to use a case to stop accidently pressing the keys... then the key design simply doesn't work very well. I never, never had this with my Volvo...
