I have a great dealer, they are on top of it, and hopefully in a few weeks my order can go a step closer to production.
Your dealer is full of it. The revised website configuration shows that the Executive package includes Driving Assistance Plus, which includes the Driving Assistance package. IOW, they've combined ZDA and ZDB but removed ACC from the combined package.

I really hate it when dealers make stuff up, which they do because a) they don't know their products, b) they need to pretend they do and c) making stuff up comes naturally to them.

Remember: a dealer wants to extract as much money as possible from you. Lying about "shortages" is in the same vicinity as, "The price is only good today". It's designed to create what salespeople call "urgency" and to part you from your money more easily.

It's much more likely that BMW is reassessing the "take-rate" (as I mentioned before) and/or tweaking MY18 X-drive models with the soon-to-go-into-production S-drive MY19s.

There are much, much better answers to a mid-model-year configuration change than a "shortage" rumor started by a dealer, to whom BMW tells little if anything about its production planning situation.

BTW, if you believe there's a shortage of ZDA and ZDB, I've got a bridge in NYC I wanna sell ya.

FXoffroad - I didn't catch the specifics but I think a component that goes into the drive assistance package is what has a supply constraint.

So just a minor change in the last 5 minutes from what I said, my build order did just go thru with these two packages for a June delivery. So looks like the impact was a few week delay. For me personally not a huge deal.

Thanks. I'm suppose to get a VIN this week, I'll be curious to see what my dealer says about my timeline. Like you, I don't mind waiting.

I have a basic understanding of production/source lines, but a bit surprised that they'd delete the options from the online X3 build configurator, since those would seem to be popular options.

You're using the build configurator with an sDRIVE, not an xDrive.

And I'm curious to know how you know if the dealer is "full of it" or not?

What if someone paid for Driving Assistance package but not purchased the Executive package in past couple weeks and ordered the car. Wondering how BMW would handle it since they changed these packages recently. Thoughts?

So I don't think they changed packages at all. Things are confusing because their website configuration is jacked up (and they admit that, I'll paste the response from their tech support below) and I do believe there was a complication with a component. Maybe this is all manipulation on BMW's part, but I don't see how they benefit from it my build today is the same as I had spec'ed online 2 weeks ago. I first noticed the online build configurator being flaky when the dynamic handling package disappeared for a few days only to come back. I'm guessing any hour now we will see ZDA and ZDB show back up.

Bottom line is the DA and DA plus are NOT part of the executive package. The attachment on the first post of this thread is still accurate.

Pricing on custom-order compared to dealer stock?

I'm heading towards ordering an X3 rather than buying from dealer stock to get the configuration I want.

Anybody know what kind of deal to expect?

Their flooring and insurance cost should be much less on a special-order car.

But one Salesman implied he could give me a better deal on something in stock.

Many of you have been down this path before; any thoughts about how good a deal I can get on a special order?

Thanks in advance!

Here in NorCal I found that the car I was shopping for (X3 M40i) had about a 10-12% discount if you bought it off the lot at Stevens Creek BMW in Santa Clara and they would give a 6% discount for special orders. The logic is that the vehicles already on the lot are costing them money every day, whereas the special orders are not going to cost them any money to keep in inventory since they are pre-sold. Check the websites of competing dealers in your area, find the one that offers the biggest discount on an in-stock vehicle, and use that as leverage to get the best deal you can from your preferred dealer.

Just be straight-forward. Create a build - save the link. Visit BMW dealership websites in your area/region, select a salesperson you think might like. Call that salesperson and tell them that you're sending them a build that you'd like pricing for. In the e-mail simply share the link and say that you are ready to order and are looking for their best and final price.

Your comment about "flooring and insurance" while possibly true, doesn't matter much when you simply want the best price possible. Don't dick around, be straight forward. Here in Colorado the discounts were the same percentage whether sitting on the lot or a custom build.

Long time lurker, first time poster. After much internet research and test drives all over the place, I picked up my very first BMW today, coming from a 2013 Audi A6. Absolutely in love with and so excited about this car. Anyway, for posterity, here is my deal (got it at Passport BMW in Maryland, for what its worth, they didn’t mess around and gave me what I considered a more than good deal, so overall quite pleased with their service, but i knew they had a car in stock that fit my needs, which always helps):

2018 BMW X3 M40i
Carbon Black
Oyster interior
Premium Package
Executive Package
Drivers Assistance Package
Drivers Assistance Plus Package
M Adaptive Suspension
Harmon Kardon Surround Sound
20” w/ Summer RFTs
Apple Carplay
Wireless Charging + 4G
Total MSRP: 67,450
Dealer Discount: 8000 (including what I believe to be 2000 dealer cash from BMW)
USAA Rebate: 2000
Total Purchase Price: 57,450
300 Doc Fee, 350 Govt Fees, and Tax/Tags/Title = out the door of 61,700 or so (Got best deal without financing, so paid all cash, the price if I financed was actually 1500 higher for some reason, dealer implied incentives which didn’t make a ton of sense to me but I’ll take it)

I feel like I did really well, but most importantly got a beautiful car. They were definitely motivated to bank the sale this month (once I told them I could close the sale this weekend, the last $500 came off the purchase price), but there wasn’t too much haggling or BS involved, so I really appreciated it.

Thanks to everyone for the great info on this forum, hope this helps someone else, and so excited for my new beautiful BMW.

So excited to join the G01 club! Thank you all for the information provided in this forum it helped me so much with negotiating.
