Should I stage 1 Tune my X3M

For 1000 bucks I can go from 473 hp to 600hp.

Question is should I do it? I don't want to compromise the car in anyway longevity wise, I know the S58 can handle it, but has anybody done it? was it worth it? Does is consume much more gas with this output?

I have a reputable company that will dyno the car before during and after the MAP upgrade.

Thoughts please and your experience.......

There's tons of threads on this, but overall consensus is everyone is happy if they're using a reputable/proven tune. I didn't want to get to involved w having my DME unlocked so I went w a simple piggyback and it knocked significant time from my 0-60,1/8mi&1/4mi so Im happy with my setup.

If I had an earlier model such as yours and didn't have to ship the ECU out I'd 100% have a proper tune and push it a lil bit further

yes heard the 2020 are much tuner friendly, no shipping of ecu etc....would not go that route if I had to ship out the computer.....thanks.

Nope! I'm dealing with too many issues because of a simple audio upgrade, cant imagine how bitchy these things are when monkeying around with the powertrain.

As long as you pick a reputable company, then yes.

Please share the name of the company that's tuning your car and we can give you a more accurate opinion.

I just have the off the shelf bootmod3 stage1 tune. I absolutely love it. It was quick before, now it’s fast. I do mainly highway driving and still average 18-19 not taking it easy. If I take it easy and drive more like a normal vehicle it’ll get 21+ (very difficult to do with a tune bc it’s just too much fun). Everything I’ve heard has said custom tune is the best way to go though.

I'm running MHD stg 2 and i use all three maps depending on gas of choice. The E map and the 95 oct map seem interchangeable to me and the 93 map is great also with a little less oomph! Yes to tune, used MHD on three consecutive Bimmers... not the same vehicle in my opinion without it. It's nasty and basically a sleeper unless you know, "ya know"

I went with a stage 1 Bend Calibration tune and found it smoother and faster. I also found the BM3 OTS had a lot more ignition corrections on 91ACN and when I went up to E50 the LPFP would drop and cause a pile of codes. Folks at Bend Calibration were extremely professional and the calibration was nearly perfect on the first Rev. The BC tune also had no issues with the codes like the BM3 OTS and logs were much cleaner. Made no hardware changes between the tunes and it made 711whp on the dyno in E60!

Any BMW mechanic can easily remove the DME, and you can send it to Femto directly. It's a straightforward process that takes six days to ship and get back to you.

You do not need to pay a company as they will only stick a label and send it to femto.
