What's that "SP1X" you keep talking about supposed to mean anyway? Is that the head-unit hardware? The control units hardware level? Something else?

No, BMW nomenclature is Service Pack 20xx

Current F & G series cars are all evolutions of a electronics concept, which was introduced in 2013. The concept is called BN2020 (BN=Bordnetz - german for vehicle electronics network)

First step of BN2020 was SP13 in the F15
SP15 was introduced with G11/12 in 2015 and is what is currently used in the X3 G01 pre LCI

SP18 was introduced in 2018 with X5 G05 and will be used in the X3 G01 LCI.

I agree with Sully -- I don't see how not pre- to post-LCI changes the equation on the chip shortage -- it's not like the supply chain for these chips is changed just because they're (potentially) moving from one platform to another. They're basically the same hardware and definitely from the same suppliers.

That said, I have read that the chip supply is loosening up, so whether or not it's LCI-related (it's not), there should/might be a light at the end of the tunnel. Whether that light is August 2021 or January 2022... who knows.
One would hope BMW would put out a statement about this - or at least very clearly articulate the features not available on the various models/trims (ie, what's restricted on X3 x30i vs M40i) and what the full Premium/Executive packages should have vs what they will have when LCI starts production.

My guess, we may not have this level of insight. What would be interesting is if we see new features appear later in MY22 as the shortages ease.

Granted, it seems BMW has taken the approach of restricting features but still producing at least nearly the same number of vehicles (although I've heard it is down somewhat). Other MFG's seem to be working to keep all vehicles fully featured, but greatly reducing the number of vehicles produced.

Anyone know how much of a price increase for the LCI?

I remember when I got my 2012 E70 X5 back in 2011, it was the LCI. It was actually release earlier. Ordered in May 2011 and got it June 2011. The price actually didn't go up if I remember correctly. They bundled some of the options into the premium package.

According to my local dealership in Munich, I was informed for a possible increase in the range of 700-900€. Accordingly this amount should probably be adjusted in other countries/states or absorbed within certain packages maybe as standard features.

As for the official relase date, from our last communication, normally it should have been released already...I guess the delay that was written several days ago is somehow confirmed 🙄

Also hearing that SOP has been delayed until October with deliveries in Dec/Jan. That is all subject to change of course.

Ouch. I wonder if that means that they'll come out of the gate without the component issues which have caused issues with the 2021's. So much for my wish to place an order in June and have a vehicle in my driveway by October.

It would be interesting, at least. The current colors leave me unenthused. My wife will get my Phytonic Blue 30i when I can get into an M40i, so I don't want another of the same. At this point, I'm looking at Carbon Black because it seems to have tinges of blue to it (and wondering whether I shouldn't just get an M235i/M2 in Sunset Orange).

What I can see now, is an increase of approx. €3000 for the Belgian market. This is however different per country and it may include some additional standard equipment versus the pre-LCI

Pre-LCI X3M €75.785
Pre-LCI X4M €77.438

LCI X3M €78.677
LXI X4M €80.330

Damn, that would be annoying!

Although I can imagine if there is hope the supply shortages get better towards the end of the year, they try to stretch and push introduction towards end of 2021?

This is good news for those who want more time to order the pre LCI cars with a slight chance of missing options making it back into production before switchover.
