After some decent seat time I can say with complete confidence that Eibach lowering springs for the X3M are legit. If you're considering just a lowering spring give Eibach a chance. The drop is perfect to me and the vehicle stays a bit flatter in turns with the lower CG. Most importantly these springs dramatically reduce the choppiness and jarring feels over bumps and crap roads. Even my wife made a comment about the ride feeling improved. The ride just feels a lot more composed and put together. Eibach A+++

I was trying to solve the harsh ride and plastic “chatter” over small road imperfections by moving to a 20” wheel with more tire sidewall, but it sounds like this may be a better move. Appreciate all the information! |

Which setup seems to have the best improvements with regard to handling?
Last weekend I hit an uphill onramp that slightly banked in towards the turn and there was a bit of a bump midturn. With the X3M and the higher ride height than my M3, it was a bit unsettling and bouncy on the corner. I assume one of these slightly softer setups might help in that type of situation. Anyone with some experience in that regard?

MSS Springs Settling Period
I know this is an old thread but I'm having a hard time finding G05 MSS adjustable spring feedback from experience. I just installed them on my 2022 x40i at lowest setting and it only dropped 16mm from stock. Response from my sales rep is that they should settle after 500-2,000 miles. Can it settle to the advertised range of 50mm? The ride is amazing but was hoping for much more drop than 16mm. Thank you

H&R states 1.2" in front & 1" in the rear. So that could be some of the reason their spring are a touch firmer.

H&R Sport Springs and spacers
I should first disclose that I have an H&R brand bias. I have used H&R exclusively for many years, on everything from E36 M3 (the infamous "Ice 9" ), to big Audi S6's and R8's to Porsche 911 race cars. So, I cannot compare brands. For current application, I can speak to my experience with my '22 X3 M40i LCI. I drove the car on the stock suspension for about 500 miles, and was a little disappointed that it was a bit stiff for road use, just like the X3M that I had previously test driven and had expected to buy (but didn't because it was WAY too stiff for Santa Fe's rough roads).
I ordered an H&R Sports Springs set and installed it with 12mm spacers (now increased to 15mm). It lowered the car 1.4 in in the front, and .8 in the rear. I went with a stock alignment. https://www.hrsprings.com/pr/detail/...mw-x3-m40i-g01' I installed H&R 12mm spacers to allow for a bit more strut room (tires increased to 255/40/21 front, 295/35/21 rear). I later went to 15mm spacers, as the inside of the right rear tire was just slightly rubbing when the car was loaded and I hit a deep rut. Other than that, the fit is perfect. The picture shows the look, which I think is much improved with the lower, wider stance. I do think that the H&R springs seemed to soften the abrupt hits that came with the stock springs. Handling in the canyons improved as well, but I attribute that to the Michelins (even the All Season Pilots are FAR better than the P-Zeros that came with the car), as well as to the springs and spacers. H&R Adjustable coilovers: I put them on most of my previous cars, but to be honest, the only time that I adjusted the ride height was when I put a street car on the track. Other than that, I may as well have put single ride height springs on the first place. I think that adjustable coilovers are a waste of money on an SUV, and would not recommend them. Save yourself some money at get the non-adjustable H&R Sport Springs. "Cheaper" doesn't always mean "less quality." |
