I told the dealer that my car pulls very hard when I pass a specific turning lane near my house. I was told by a bmw rep that there is a new istep update to address it.

They then did it.
Can you elaborate? I want to make sure I have my story straight when I request the update
I just said, when I pass a specific turning lane outside my house, it pulls me hard into the turning lane.

I said the same to the service people but they didn't want to do the update unless I left the car with them so they could try to replicate the issue. They also said that if they can't replicate they won't update. I ended up just paying someone to do it for me online. I really like how the suspension is less harsh now in comfort.

This sounds like a terrible idea. BMW will definitely notice and potentially mark your car as modified. Why not just pay your dealership to update?

How'd it go with them? I used them for warranty work and then my run-in service and had really good experiences.

Does everyone's engine start/stop default to being on, requiring you to press the start/stop button after turning on the car to turn off this feature?

Mine has never defaulted to being on upon start-up. I guess I'd have to press it after starting to turn the feature on (never have as I don't like it). I got it new, so wondering if the selling dealer did something to make it default to off or if it comes off by default on the M's.

Asking because if the selling dealer did it, and I get the update, guessing I'd lose the greatness that is the start/stop defaulting to off.

It's keeping the setting I leave it in. With M1 I have it configured to be on and off with M2.

Hope not, was just a software update - nothing was modified. But who knows.. They wouldn't do it even with me paying for it

The dealership service center (BMW Fairfax) was great and did me a solid favor by programming the 3/21 version (I confirmed with Imprint) as a courtesy. I am thrilled and happy to report several items do appear to have improved (e.g., suspension on comfort seems better, Carplay has a better feel to it, and shift points seem more 'buttery' smooth).

Kudos to the BMW of Fairfax service center.

Anyone know from experience if this can potentially backfire? I assume if it is uploading oem firmware and nothing else is being updated , warranty won't be impacted ? I'm tempted to go this route just for the time savings and avoid the hassle of an all day dealership thing

For those who have BM3

Can you reflash the car after this update?

This isn't an Idrive update. This is an Istep update.

Okay sure. I refer to it as a iDrive version. Checking Imprint on your idrive as stated in the previous posts and seeing your latest version. I can still answer the previous post that I had BM3 and requested dealer updates and BM3 still works.

Nice! Did you just ask them to do it while it was there, or did you describe any problems? I have a decent rapport with a SA who I used the first couple trips in there so I’m planning on shooting them straight about it. Glad to hear you had a good experience.

How do you check on Imprint? A screen through iDrive?

It was there for the 1,200 mile service and I straight up asked them to do it. They quoted the standard, "BMW doesn't cover that, and if you want it please consider paying us for the shop time..." But then one of the service managers said he would do what he could to have it covered. Just a few hours later the service rep called and said the mgr did it as a courtesy!

I checked it in ID7 by searching for imprint.

After spending 3 weeks 'negotiating' with my dealer, they finally agreed to upgrade my 2019 X3M with 2021-03 firmwares. Left the car at the shop overnight and pick-up the next day... and Wow. what a difference in suspension stiffness adjustment in Sport and Sport+. The roughness of the shock absorber is gone, a much more drivable machine now. I was waiting to try this and decide if a MSS upgrade was needed. I am happy to say I won't need to spend that extra money with this new M suspension software updates.

I just picked up my new '21 X3MC last week and noticed right away that my alignment was a bit off so I took it to the dealership and mentioned the alignment. I also noticed that the lane keep assist was very hit or miss and mentioned this to them as well. I told them that there is a software update that should fix this. They told me that the techs will decide that. They kept the car for almost 2 days and I'm extremely happy to report that they fixed the alignment and updated my iStep software to the 3/21 version! Car feel even more amazing now--not as "jumpy" as before!
