Used M Cars
Can anyone enlighten me on the general consensus of purchasing used M cars? There is a great deal on a 2020 X3M at a shop in town with only 10K miles. I would think that there is a high chance these things get thrashed, but 10K miles in 2-3 years makes me think it wasn’t a daily? Does anyone have any horror or success stories with a used M car? Thanks!

I had a trouble free 2015 M6 for about 3 years. Picked up off lease. I have a relationship with the dealership so the SA showed me the service history so I had comfort it was well maintained. $120k new so I figured the first owner didn’t thrash it too bad.

What's a really great deal? I have a 2020 completely loaded (85k msrp) and have the itch to move to something else. |

It’s a non-comp 10K miles with exec package, 10K miles, sport seats, $69K.

You’re right - this one did have CPO though. I forgot to mention that. Not sure how much value that adds. |

Agreed. The dealership I leased my 2022 X3MC from has a 2020 X3MC that's CPO'd for $69K, has executive package also. It's been there for 3ish months now actually surprised it hasn't been moved yet. |

Fair enough…. I’m not planning on getting that one, but more concerned about purchasing used M cars in general. Thanks.

like others have said, the cars are very well built and designed for thrashing. After going to the BMW M School and seeing what those M cars go through on a daily/weekly basis I was blown away at the beating they took over and over and over again.
As long as it is up to date with maintenance and in good shape I would not hesitate. If you can get CPO that would be ideal for any extended warranty options. |

Just picked up a ‘20 X3 M. Less than 8,500 miles on it, and based on in service date 30 months left on the warranty. Wife absolutely loved the color, wheels and interior and it was time to retire her ‘14 X3 M40i.
All services were done and the car was flawless. Didn’t purchase any extended warranty or maintenance. Only downside is for the PNW I will need to replace the summer tires |

I suspect most X3/4M owners chose this platform as they have family/dogs. Much less opportunities to thrash than other M cars.
98% of the time i would be better with a 2.0D! |

My experience is not common but bought a certified ‘20 X3M from a BMW dealer which at some point before 14k miles had a transfer case replaced and also came to find out that there was a tune on the car and warranty was voided.. Just do your homework.

Did they disclose the car had a tune and was sold “as-is”? If so it should never have been sold as certified. It was sold to you as certified so the dealer should send the DME data to BMW and they can determine the time stamp of the tune. As long as it was prior to your purchase they will have to make it right. I’d be on that dealer daily until they resolve it.

I just purchased a CPO 2020 comp with exec and drivers assist with 17k miles- $69.5k- dealer would not budge any lower.
Good news is all service was completed and it's in mint condition inside and out. I am happy with the deal (considering the crazy market), maybe one of the best bangs for the buck. [IMG][/IMG] |
