I like the v1 gen2 in my weekend car as I’m usually out of the city so when the detector goes off, I really pay attention, and there aren’t really any fixed signals where I’m driving.
If I had to pick just one though, I’d probably go with the v1 gen2 due to the simplicity of it, and it gets my attention better for some reason. (This assumes that the v1 gen2 is not alarming due to the gesture control that is in the x3m which is why I originally bought the max 360c since the v1 gen1 was constantly alarming due to gesture control.)
Have you used the JBV1 app with the Valentine? You can auto silence fixed signals like all the "your speed is" signs. It is a game changer to have the app going with the V1.

I love gesture control on my and wouldn't want to compromise that out of my daily drive either but for sure am tossed up about which one is "better" for me through the busy city of San Diego since this car pulls so easily
You can disable rear laser on the V1 and keep you gesture control on. Like I said in a previous post, if you run the JBV1 app with the V1, nothing compares.

Ya for sure, I saw that review with the app.

If I don't want to run the app though, escort max 360s may be the way to go then?

Thanks for all the feedback and stay safe out there

Yeah, without the app the V1 is pretty sensitive. I believe you can program auto-silence into the V1 with the Valentine companion app but I have never tried because I use JBV1.

I was having the same issue on my X3M but I have the Gen 2 and the App that comes with V1 does allow you to customize and turn the rear laser off. I can attest that it also works and I have gesture control on.

Uniden R7

Hi fellow BMW fanatics. I am taking delivery of a 2022 Toronto Red Metallic X4MC in July/August. I just purchased a Uniden R7 to replace the Uniden R3 I purchased when I leased my 2017 Melbourne Red Metallic 340i xDrive. Any gesture control concerns you have experienced? I don't know (but I assume we can) if we can turn off gesture control in settings?

Trying to be patient 🚘

I turned gesture control off and disabled Laser in the front/rear of my Gen 2 Valentine. Sucks but it was the only way to stop the false alarms.

Get one of these…Problem solved. Blocks the laser for gesture control.

Will also solve the issue of the wife turning it back on 😁

If you look at the top part where the overhead lights are with your iphone on video it will pick up the laser. I used a few pieces of tape but the CF cover looks like a nicer solution.

Did you have to do both? I mean, if you just turned off Laser in the V1 wouldn't that be enough, and no need to also turn off gesture control?

0 issues with my R7. Drove from WA state to AZ and back and worked like a charm. Used vortex radar setup guide. Got home and ordered one for our g80 as well.

Thanks Mike, ok will order now. However, when I input my car is a 2022 it says it's not compatable? I thought this area was the same as my 2021?

That piece was not changed from pre LCI models despite what eBay says.

He would only have to turn off laser on V1. He could still use gesture control normally without warnings.

My old V1 gen 1 is not usable in this car with constant alerts. Its pretty old as well. Thinking of buying the V1 Gen2 for the X3MC and use the old one in my "analog" car next year.

Will putting the new gen2 detector high on the windshield by the visor help with false alerts while having the gesture control function as usual? Thinking of getting the concealed display unit regardless of gesture control issue. Will this setup work without disabling anything?

Is your gen 1 on the least responsive setting? There’s like 3 levels of sensitivity. On the most sensitive, it would go off while passing supermarkets with automatic door openers. Changing the sensitivity level eliminated all that garbage.

Interesting how the behavior of the V1G2 varies from BMW to BMW. I recently sold my 2022 M5C. Ran my V1G2 in the exact same spot (high on the windshield, to the left of the rear view mirror) as I do now in my 2022 X3MC.

On the M5C I had gesture control disabled, but still got a lot of false. Then I made a small mask for the laser emitter in the roof and that fixed it and I was able to keep front and rear laser enabled on the V1.

On the X3MC, I've not had to cover the emitter AND I actually have gesture enabled. I'll get a very occasional false if I reach up to touch the screen - but not consistently and it's not a problem at all.

I have the V1 hard wired with a fuse tap to the fuse panel in the passenger footwell - did the same on the M5C.

Now Gesture Control - that's about worthless - and I thought I read a thread the other day that said it's being dropped from a number of 23 models - really a terrible implementation.

It will constantly set off Laser. You need to either disable laser, or cover up the gesture control camera.
