Joining the club soon. I'm having 265/40-21 and 295/35-21 PSAS4's installed at Tire Rack (their HQ is 15 min from my house) on 6/23. Looking forward to the wider rubber and reliable 3-season usage (I have dedicated snow tires/wheels). I figure the wider rubber will likely make up for any traction/handling losses from going to an AS tire. I don't drive at the limits anyway.

Would like to see some pictures and hear your thoughts after they are installed. I am going to do the same mod later this year. Thanks

The 295/35 21 MPS 4s only comes with the "full ring premium touch" sidewall pattern in the BMW star variant. This is also the front OEM tire on the X5 M comp. To get the look of the X3MC BMW OEM version, I had to get the Benz variant. Note that this is the same version that is on the GLC AMG 63s in the rear. Ordered from Tire Rack. Fun fact, the BMW variant is made in the USA and the Benz variant is made in France for both the 295 and 265.

I did not want to just move my rear tires to the front due to my understanding that Michelin makes the tires specific to the front and rear. The front is designed with a different compound and performance characteristics than the rear. I again ordered the Benz variant in 265/40 21 from Tire Rack, which are the front tires on the GLC AMG 63s. At first I left the stock 255 tires in the front with the 295 rear, but I noticed an increase in understeer. With 265 in the front I feel like the car is better balanced. There is a 1% difference in diameter between the front and rear wheels, which based on my understanding, is within BMW tolerance. Because I am within 1%, there shouldn't be a negative impact to the xDrive system, even if the front diameter is marginally larger than the rear. This is the opposite of OEM, as the rear diameter is larger. No spacers thus far and no rubbing that I can tell of yet.

There is definitely a more planted feel. The look is spot on. I hope to see improvements in braking as well, due to the increased front tire track. I am also a little more confident in this set up based on both Mercedes and Porsche having the same tire spec on their GLC AMG 63s and Macan Turbo and GTS.

This is only my perspective and hopefully it can help someone else avoid some of the heartburn I encountered figuring this all out.

Enjoy!
Are you saying to get all 4 in the Mercedes 01 spec or just the 265 in front and the bmw star in the 295?

Same. Would love a straight on rear view to see if 295 without spacers is enough

295/35/21 rear no spacers if this helps at all. It's all I had in my camera roll

Wondering what others have experienced… I did this mod with PS4AS tires for the mid atlantics mild (but too cold for summers) winter. It felt like it completely destroyed the cornering ability of the car. It only wanted to go in a straight line and felt like the nimbleness was completely gone…..

Is this the PS4AS in general, or the wider tires? I'm inclined to blame the width

I am surprised to read your opinion on the 265/295 setup.
I have not seen anybody else report a negative opinion on this combo.
I have yet to need a tire replacement so its good to know there are opposing opinions out there on this.
Thanks for the feedback

Same here. Now I am a bit nervous about getting this combo installed tomorrow.

You are way ahead of me on this.
Do keep the board posted on your observations after the swap

Thanks

Would seem like after 10 pages we would have seen more negative comments if it wasn't that positive. I am still moving forward with it.

Anyone notice more rock chips than expected with the wider tires and spacers (for those that got them too)? Wondering if I should ppf the rear panels too (looking to get at least the entire front, hood, and bumper ppf'd).

I'm very happy with the new tires, so far (PSAS4's). No complaints at all. Handling feels great, the ride is just slightly softer (in a good way), and I haven't noticed any change in gas mileage (a small concern I had with putting more rubber on the road).

Here is a pic of the rears. I am not using any spacers.

I ordered the Mercedes spec 265/40/21 front and 295/35/21 rears. Waiting to mount on my 892s that I ordered. Will report back.

Why Mercedes spec? What did 892 set you back?

For some reason Discount Tire only carries the rear BMW star spec. Not a big difference besides the rubber composite and I think it's similar to the GL63. I spent $3160 on the 892s. Didn't really like the aftermarket selection and if I wanted to sell the 892s it wouldn't be a problem getting rid of them.

Close to ordering a 2023 X4 with the jet black 20" wheels. Will the tire size upgrades listed above work well with 20 inch wheels? Thanks for your feedback!

I recently put on the 265/295 combo with Michelin pilot as4s and can positively say it really improved the ride dramatically. No more harsh choppiness on bumps. Much smoother ride. Got rid of every rock and pebble sticking to the tire. I'm very happy with them. The car should have came stock like this! Here is a pic of the rear and side profile with the 295s.

Anyone consider the Ps5 as it looks like the Ps4 are being phased out.

PS5 is successor to the PS4. The PS4s is a different and sportier tyre that has no successor yet in the Michelin line.
