What is everyone doing about this, how are you fixing it? I'd be up my dealers ass if I were any of you.

For a German Car Company this is a total disgrace.

So much for the theory of the same quality even if not built in Germany.

My guess is this is a supplier issue and the primer was wrong. Had this issue years ago on my 2002 X5 and the front bumper cover it was a PPG paint issue.

So, I went by my dealer and showed them. My advisor took photos and sent everything over to BMW and I’m waiting for a response about both of my concerns, the rear bumper paint and the spoiler. As soon as I know more, I will update. I’m a little annoyed that my 3500 mile, 5 month old vehicle is going to need to be painted.

Tbf our paint is perfect. Wonder if this is limited only to a certain batch of cars made during a certain period with certain colors.

My AW X3MC is fine. September '19 build if I remember correctly. Didn't take delivery till May though. Also, they repainted the back bumper because it has some scratches on it.

The bumpers and other plastic parts that are typically painted separately at another facility so it's probably related to a bad batch. I have no paint issues with my plastic parts (Toronto Red) and that's after a pretty bad winter. It is disappointing to see this as in this day and age it really shouldn't happen but if there's an issue with the actual supplied paint then it's one of those things that may not show up until cars are sold.

My vehicle was an October 2019 build and My rear bumper/diffuser was peeling on the edges on both sides of the vehicle and only on the bottom.
We noticed it when they were doing the ppf. The dealer replaced the bumper and painted it. My car is black. They wrote it up as repaired defective bumper/diffuser.

Did the same today, taking it in for photos to send to BMW. If you don’t mind, can you give me a heads up when you hear back, and I’ll do the same?

Considering bringing docs from this forum, the dealer said it’s not needed.

Am in the same boat.

Been periodically checking paint in the lower bumpers so far, no bubbles nor peeling observed. Will keep fingers crossed.

I wonder if something like this which is clearly from the factory would fall under the 12 year corrosion warranty that comes on all new BMWs as it's tied to the elctrophoretic painting process which is meant to (absent stone chips or outside damage) resist agains rust/corrosion of the body panels.

Checked our Sep '19 and Nov'19 X3MC builds (BSM and PB), and both appear fine on brief inspection. Agree it would be helpful if someone could make a simple spreadsheet of build date and colors involved - might assist in clarifying potential 'bad batches'.

My dealer said they would get it corrected when I am ready. They were not sure if the part of the rear bumper came painted or if they were going to need to paint it.

Mine was 12/07/2019 build

If yours was the same batch it's very likely going to start delaminating long before your warranty runs out.

I'm not sure if this has to do with the Spartanburg plant specifically or BMW in general, but this car has the least durable paint I've ever owned on a vehicle. Not to mention BMW has yet to produce touch up paint for Toronto Red :

We also have an X7 in our family. Its paint shows swirls like nothing I've ever seen and is generally incredibly fragile.

I will definitely let you know what happens. They are supposed to be sending it to my requested body shop to have the work completed. But, we don’t know how long the repair will take. Depending how long it takes, I will be calling BMW for some sort of payment assistance or something. I’m still currently waiting on my service advisor to give me an update and the OK from BMW.

Scheduled to drop mine off Monday morning to have the paint work completed and everything fixed. Will update once it’s finished. Hopefully they give me a decent loaner since I’m sure it’ll take a week or so.

Just dropped mine off at the dealership- for pictures they’re sending the pics to BMW. The shitty thing is the front lip is basically the entire bumper. I also noticed chips in the below the back bumper, which might be attributed to rocks, but i figured document all. It’s just odd it’s only effecting Donnington Grey, from what I’ve seen.

Production is December 2019 per the car’s manufacturing sticker (how are you guys finding the specific date, I only see month). Checking the VIN, I see a sales date, but that’s not my sales date.
