So who does there own service?

I have been a BMW enthusiast for some time now and am curious how many here DIY the factory scheduled maintenance?

While I have access to ISTA, I don't have my car yet, so I'm curious if someone has the factory service schedule?

Looking forward to some relax time in the garage...I guess

My son is a BMW tech so I can have him do all my work. The only issue is he lives in PA and I moved to SC. I go back enough that I’ll have him change my oil and filter at 5k miles. My local dealer seems OK.

With every car I own, I always do an oil change myself at the mid point between the dealership services. I also check air filters and cabin filters as on another car, one dealership "forgot" to change my cabin filter once despite charging me for it

Factory service schedule is on an SIB in TIS and not on ISTA

Thanks, for some reason I thought it only had the individual service instructions. I'll have to take a look.

I did find this while googling. Some may find it useful

You won't be able to view stuff in TIS unless you have a BMW login. It's fairly simple. The only thing is the spark plug service which is every 6th oil service.

1st oil service 10k

2nd oil service 20k
Microfilter
Key battery

3rd oil service 30k

4th oil service
Microfilter
Air filter
Vehicle check
Key battery

5th oil service
Brake flush

6th oil service
Microfilter
Spark plugs
Key battery

Thanks so much. That's what I recall from past cars, yet I received a Teleservice alert email today at 19k miles that it's due for Air Cleaner and Spark Plugs. I'm hoping that's M models service reminder and not some other issue.

I forgot I might be on the X3 M forum right now. Spark plugs is every 30k miles, or 3rd oil service.

Thank you sir...that nailed it. Despite the low mileage, it's due for 3rd oil service

I guess it all depends on how hard you drive the car. If the car is ready for new plugs at 19k & the book says 30k you probably drive it properly like it was meant to be driven (most of the time). LOL

I don't do my own service, but I do install my own parts. Once the service contract ends that will change.

It's tied to oil change. Oil change is due annually as well. So it's not necessarily tied to mileage, but the 3rd oil service. That is why mileage can be very under 30k

I was surprised when I was in for my 3rd oil service on my M4 just before 30k miles and they changed the plugs.

I (also) have a '17 X4 M40. That car came with a printed maintenance schedule very similar to your EXCELLENT attachment. Thank you for posting that. I'd asked my dealer when I picked up my '22 X4 MC, why I didn't receive a printed maintenance schedule (like the attachment) and he stated that BMW has done away that. Now that I know spark plugs get changed every 3rd oil charge, I can sleep better.
Again, thank you for posting that '20 maintenance schedule.

I'm only at 22k, but the car is telling me that with my next oil change, I am also overdue for brake fluid, diff fluid, and trans fluid replacement? Ill do new brake fluid as I do new pads, but wasn't expecting diff and trans flush this early?

You must be driving the car pretty hard & really enjoying it to need all those new fluids so early. That still seems a touch too soon to require all those new items. But these cars are fairly advanced in the way they self diagnose things. Did you track the car & are you the original owner... ?

I also do an "in-between oil service" myself, i.e. 5k miles, while the car is under BMW's maintenance program. The question I have is whether those of us that do that should reset the oil change service. I have done it both ways in the past, but with this new X4 MC, I think I will refrain from resetting the oil service. Otherwise, I may loose out on free oil changes at the dealership.
