Top F25 Issues to check before warranty expires?

Hi,

My MY2012 F25 xDrive35i is about to go out of extended warranty as we approach 100k miles and I was wondering if anyone knows about a checklist of things I should make sure the dealership reviews and fixes before it expires.

Ours has been pretty problem free outside of a valve cover gasket leak, thankfully.

Any tips would be appreciated - thank you.

Rob

Sell it while it's still under warranty cause at 100,001 miles the cooling system will shit and you'll be out $2000.

Thanks for the warning about the thermostat and water pump E90705.

My plan is to take the car to an independent shop for a PPI, as they would be able to do a more thorough examination than I, and bring any photos of issues to my dealership for repair while still under the extended warranty.

Anyone here aware of what the warning signs are for water pump issues? Forum posts I've read only point to failures that are fairly immediate (high engine temp, limp home mode), without any warnings.

BMW will look at your indy recommendations and toss it in the trash, don't waste your money.

BMW can not and will not warranty items that are not broken just because you want some peace of mind.

^^^This. BMW won't replace anything unless it has failed. An inspection may or may not be worth the $$ depending on what your extended warranty covers. For example, it doesn't do much good to have an indy tell you that your control arm bushings are tearing if the warranty does not cover wear parts like that.

You may or may not get a warning.

Many just got a high temperature warning and had to tow the vehicle.

I got a yellow warning twice in a week span. Code is that pump had shut down due to blockage (but car still runs).

YMMV

It will fail at some point, but you can only replace it if it has failed or generated a trouble code such as mine. (You can replace it on your dime at any point)

The failed pump is on my N55 135i.

My X3 has the N20 and I had the thermostat replaced once. And got another warning a couple of weeks ago (and check engine light, High speed fan etc). Will wing it to see if it fails completely, still under the 2 year warranty.

Valvetronic and the eccentric shaft just failed on our X3. $3000 at my Indy shop. Needless to say, didn't see this coming.

I'll be posting a thread once I have more clarity on resolution and fix next week. I'm finding that total failure, as I described, versus replacing a sensor, is quite rare.

Update:

So, amazingly and luckily, my X3 started having a loud droning sound coming from the engine bay, eventually followed by the "engine hot, drive mildly" message from iDrive. I happened to be near my dealer and dropped it off and they determined it was, as expected, the water pump - it is being replaced under warranty (which expires in 2 days). Under the wire!

Anyway, I thought it might be useful to relay that for our N55 there was a warning sound ahead of the system notification and engine getting too hot - that loud droning sound. Good luck fellow N55ers!

The loud droning sound was your cooling fan running at max speed. This is a precursor of the water pump failure.
