BMW X4 M Performance Diesel Model May be Coming
BIMMERPOST NEWS X4 M50d M Performance Diesel Model May be Coming One of the unknowns surrounding the BMW X4, which will make its debut at the 2014 Geneva show in March, is whether it will be offered in a full blown M model (i.e. X4 M) like its bigger cousins - the X5 M and X6 M. Early indications have been no. But a new report suggests that although a full fledged M model may not be in BMW's plans, a diesel M Performance Model may be. This is according to statements made in a recent interview by BMW Australia Managing Director, Phil Horton. Horton recently said that "There are plans to expand the diesel M lineup,"... "I think where there might be potential is in the new X4, which we'll be bringing in next year." He further confirms that: "There is some discussion about, not an M car, but an M Performance car. Potentially with a diesel engine, but I’m not sure that that’s actually a confirmed product as yet." BMW currently offers the F15 X5 in a M50d "M Performance Model" which features 381 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque, from just three liters of displacement. Unfortunately, no diesel M Performance model has yet to be made available in the U.S. One can hope that this changes with the next generation of cars as both the next generation G11 7 Series and now the X4 are rumored to be coming in diesel M Performance guise. |

Diesel M, I will take one for the wife
pointless, not at all. AWD car with passenger room of the X3, but with a shorter tailgate area, we never have our X3 filled to the ceiling, this is our perfect family car. Sporty but somewhat practical with 2 kids |

I like it! If a M performance diesel version will be available in US, I would buy it. In Europe there is the Audi sq5 with an incredible Diesel engine.
This car would be a great alternative. |

Ah come on, announce it already, it cannot take that much development to put what is essentially a variant of the 35d engine in this x4 (& x3, 3 series and 4 series) as has been rumoured for quite a while.
Not all of us want to equate M performance with Lego. Those who have company cars especially would like an M performance model off the peg. |

They can make this, but they need to get rid of the X1. There's no need for both, and this one looks better... I guess.

absolutely pointless. BMW should use all resource to develop a good "driver's machine" as opposed to those pointless GTs, GCs, and same engine variance models..

Between the speeds of 0 and 70 mph the diesel tri turbo won't have any problems keeping up with petrol performance models in a straight line, and let's be honest the majority of buyers are going to be road users only. M Performance makes far more sense than an M full blown in terms of likely sales |

Tri-Turbo and an interior quality that is on par with F'15....
Unfortunately, based on the few pix out there, I believe the X4 interior is going to mimic my F'25

I don't see a lot of chance for something like this in the US. For a diesel to be successful here it has to have outstanding efficiency in absolute terms, not just relative to other performance cars. The pricing of diesel above premium petrol is at the root of this.
