Questions you thought were too stupid to ask
We had a consolidated thread like this in another forum for dumb questions that could usually be answered in one post and it worked really well. Maybe it'll take off on here, maybe not. But I have a really stupid question about my car. So, I'll go first.
Is it normal for my side mirrors to fold in at different angles? The driver's side mirror doesn't fold in as far as the passenger side. You can really see it in the overhead picture. It's not a huge deal, but I noticed it this morning when I was checking out my car from the office If it's not normal I'd want to know so I can have the dealer fix it the next time I bring it in.

Mirrors are set at different open angles, if we look closely. The viewing range requires different designs, side to side. This influences the closed positions. Added thought... LHD and RHD models have different/opposite mirror sets. |

Awesome; I just noticed that this week, and started down the WTF? path. Thanks for bringing it up.

Does anyone else's sliding cover ahead of the gear shift (cupholder/phone pad cover) sometimes jam shut and need considerable wriggling to open? I now tend to close it to "finger width" rather than fully closed.

I noticed this too. I think it actually latches. I found if you put the front lip that sticks up between your thumb and forefinger and slightly bend it towards the front of the car and then push it's easier.

Yes!! I have to push down slightly to get it to move. I feel like I’m going to break it. I do the same thing now. Leave it slightly open (when I do close it).

Here's a stupid question: Is it possible to turn down the volume of the parking sensor beeps? I've tried adjusting the volume while the beeping is happening, but it makes no difference. Reason being, I live in a pretty quiet cul-de-sac. When I get home from the gym at night (as I've just done 30 mins ago) the sound from the parking sensors as I park the car is super, super loud. I'm sure people can hear it from across the way. Would just like to park a little more discretely at night |

The PDC signal tone volume can be adjusted. 1. "CAR" 2. "Settings" 3. "Driver Assistance" 4. "Parking and Maneuvering" 5. "Volume PDC signal" 6. Set the desired value. The setting is stored for the driver profile currently used. |

Not a question, just an observation. Have you noticed that the turn signal volume is set at a tolerable level?

Yup. It's driven me crazy since I bought the car, keep meaning to raise it with the dealer but always forget as it's mostly open anyway. Believe it's a very common issue.

OK - I've just looked through the menus again and found it! lol.
Under iDrive 6.x, it's hidden away under: Vehicle Settings, iDrive Settings, Sound, Volume Settings, PDC. There doesn't seem to be much variability, though. So, as TX3M says, the lowest setting is still loud. But I guess it's still slightly lower than it was. Thanks for the pointers! |
