YES!! Once the rona is over I am first in line for a custom dyno tune. Who do I contact 1. tristate 2. Bm3tuning 3. Protuning freaks?
I have no idea what the difference between these are? Thanks!

Protuningfreaks don’t do custom maps, only OTS.

Probably F80Paul or CaryJordan are who most use for custom bm3 tunes. Try OTS first, and then if you feel like another $500ish is worth it for another 30 - 250 HP (depends on mods), then go for custom.

I agree enjoy the OTS first
I almost see no benefit to do a custom tune on pump gas being that I've seen so many logs in East Coast when the 93 is actually hit or miss. If I were to do Custom Tune its always for higher octane fuel

@BM3Tuning is an Authorized PTF/BM3 Dealer and F80Paul Exclusive Dealer for Tristate, they also do other cars like Alpina/Aston Martin,Benz outside of the BM3 platform since they work with HCPerformance (Calibrator in Denmark)
@TristateBM3 is ^^ partner where they focus more on the BMW's with BM3

ProtuningFreaks are the creator of BM3 (Developer and Calibrator of the BM3 and OTS Maps)

This is super solid valuable information guys!

Personally as for mods I am waiting on installation of a catted DP thats about it.

I planning on contacting F80Paul for his custom tune since I hear he is one of the best. Means reliable and getting some extra power hopefully?

I want to get a Stage 2 93 octane tune and a stage 2 100 octane tune, so heading down to Tristate BM3 for the tunes.

But you guys still suggest just a OTS tune for 93 and 100 with only a DP as custom tune wont benefit much with my simple mods?

That’s good to know not too far from me I am north of Boston. I might actually look into that after things get better unless BM3 does find a way around the locked DME before I go that way.

Yeah, the OTS is a blast even on stage 1. Stage 2 93 or E30 should be even more fun. I ran a stage 2 E30 tune with stock EVERYthing on my '17 340i. It was a real hoot. I haven't bought the extra maps for the X3 yet, since they released the stage 1 tune, and then the rest of the maps like 3 days later. I was in a hurry, otherwise I would have gone straight to stage 2 93.

Also some good news. MHD is stated to release their public release with OTS by the end of May and they will have an ios app released as well for the 2020 M40i and M340i.

Are you also implying that with this release that they have unlocked the DME for the 19-11 software and higher? Just want to confirm

One should never imply anything that I say on this forum. It depends on how many beers were consumed.

MHD - They are in BETA testing for the 2020 B58 so the M40i and the M340i.
They are releasing OTS maps in their app. available for purchase and tune and do all MHD stuff. Adjust burbles, data log, stage 1-2 different octanes etc.

This will be available for the public according to MHD by the end of May. Currently as of today they only support up to 2019. And they will be finally adding Apple IOS support, currently were only able to tune on a Android device for all years.

And answering your question you get the MHD OTS tune via OBD. Thats if your DME is unlocked with new software like ours, or if you have the old software then you can just use OBD tune no problem.

MHD does not do the actual DME unlock so we have to find a tuner of choice to do it and that requires physical plug into the DME to bench unlock so either ship to a tuner or visit one if youre local.

Has anyone Tuned their 2020 X3 M40 yet? If so how much more power did you get?

Also is the 2019 and 2020 same engine? I know the 2019 is 355 give or take and the 2020 is 382, that's why i ask. I know on the ProTuning site it says up to 20% more HP on 93 gas. Was wondering if that also implies to the 2020 models hence the more power it has over the 2019's

Thanks

I was tuned with MHD a few months back before my DME got locked out and in their early stages of BETA I did stage 1 93. It was nuts.

And I think you're mainly asking how much power tunes made, so thats asking if anyone here did a dyno pull. You will find out not a lot of people except shops actually dyno their cars.

Its about the performance gains. Mainly going to a race track or the more convenient and my preferable way is a Dragy. I can have 300hp+ over stock and if Im still running 12s 1/4 mile then something is wrong here.

Or on another side if im only 25hp+ over stock and run low 11s. Thats something Id rather brag about.

To your point with the Bootmod3 % increase estimates those are for the tunes for the older models. Up to 2019.
And yes the 2020 is different than the previous years its a B58TU I believe without fact checking my DME codes.

I know a couple users in this thread have 2020 and are tuned with BM3 already. But again if youre only asking about hp gains youre not going to get an answer quickly for that.

The good new is finally that we are seeing progress for companies providing us what we've all been waiting for and the DME can finally be unlocked also.

FWIW, BM3 has an iOS app waiting for apple approval. Not sure on timing, but it would be interesting to see if it comes out first or if MHD does.

2020 has a B58-D. TU is in the Supra and one other I think.

They're all considered TU. They're just different power outputs. X3 is B58D. Another is B58T. The 340i has the B58M. It's all a bunch of dumb letters. If it's a 2020 X3 M40i, M340i, or Supra / G29 it has a B58TU

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I mean i was definitely curious because of the engines. But it's definitely an increase, i believe someone on the forum said 0-60 under 4 seconds which is pretty insane for a crossover. The 2020 according to BMW is 4.4 to 60mph. I definitely intend on getting this tune in the future, just have other priorities right now.

BM3 has an app on the App Store already at least in US (link below). Unless your talking about something different. I know MHD is working on an app and last time i spoke to them they said summer time. Even better now if they said May for the people going to MHD

Yeah BMW is definitely good with being consistent and even under promising its performance #'s. Unlike other manufacturers claiming 10s cars 1/4 and in a super perfect condition all owners get nowhere close. lol looking at dodge.

0-60 under 4 seconds that would be me. With MHD...when it worked.

Also I know Adam on here is tuned with BM3 and hes in the low 3s 0-60 even posted Dragy info.

My funny vid.

Ha I've seen that video on YouTube not to long ago. I even made a comment on it for the reaction? That was with a tune?

It's been a year since BMW first released a new software that locks OBD from tuning in the S55 (M3/M4) and only way around it today is still requiring a simple patch unlock done via proper tool. Aris from TristateBM3 and Julio from BM3Tuning are top notch guys and did this in my X4M in 2hrs and went on my way home happy with a smile (included 30mins of hood open letting it cool down).

Yep my buddy just did his Z4 M40i same engine as X3/X4 M40i 2020+

BM3 is so flexible I don't know why I would want to use anything else or behind lol.
Mac, Windows, iOS or Android best platform hands down!

If anyone plans on sending out their DME for the unlock. Heres my guide, hope it helps.
👍

I would definitely recommend disconnecting battery/batteries and the disconnecting and removing DME. Would not recommend charger hooked up with DME removed. Also with batteries disconnected you won't have any faults when reconnecting. Just have to reset the time and date.
