2.0D 2005 key help
Hi everyone, I'm brand new here so forgive any errors or missing info. I've just bought a 2005 X3 2.0D and so far am very pleased with it. My problem is just a small technical one.
I have two remote/radio control keys, one is the clearly unused spare because it's in pristine condition. The other is obviously the one that has been 'used' as the car's main key, (I do not posess the third 'access only' none radio key). The problem is that while both keys give me remote access to all parts of the car as expected, the only key that actually starts the car is the pristine spare. The main key, that has clearly been used til now as the primary, won't start the engine. Now obviously, if I lose a key, I want the other to be able to start the car! Is this a key programming issue or something more complicated? I've read through all my owners books but can't find any route to the problem. Assuming I'm not just being daft, is there a simple way to resolve it? Many thanks . . . . hope someone can help |

Thanks for the reply . . . . BMW tell me that there is no easy fix and key needs replacing at a cost of £135. Am currently negotiating with the dealer and testing their aftersales service - hoping they will stand the cost - after all, it was sold not fit for purpose. We'll see, but thanks for considering my post.
