Ironically, I just received an email from BMW asking me to comment on the service performed . . .

I have had the same issue as you with my 2013 X3 28i except it's now been to the dealer 4 times, it's in right now for what I hope will be the fix. The car now has 40,000 miles on it. In Sept of last year, it had the turbo replaced which seemed to fix it for a while but by June, it was smoking just as bad after sitting 2 days or more. The 2nd trip in they replaced the turbo oil drain line but that didn't fix it. In September, it went back because the smoking was just as bad as ever and this time BMW and the dealer said it appeared that the valve stem seals were allowing oil to leak into the combustion chambers when the car was at rest. That didn't fix it and I'm really frustrated, now BMW says they want to reinspect the turbo. My vehicle has been in the shop for 44 days in the last year.

yikes.

I did almost 100k miles in an E90 before getting this CPO 2013 X3. The e90 was nowhere nearly as reliable as would have liked. I was hoping for better with this X3.

This is shaking my confidence in BMW just a bit.

Looking around on a BMW parts website, it appears the turbo design was changed in 4/2013.

Looks like my car was produced 5/2012.

Who knows, but something tells me the change is related to this issue . . .

how many miles were up on all your cars when BMW replaced the turbos free?
mine sits on 57000 miles.

i am sure my car has done all the recalls ie turbo line (which i will call bmw tomorrow about to confirm).

i have noticed blue smoke only in the morning and took a video of it today.

I also read up on the emission warranty (which the car would fail emissions with all this smoke). Would this warranty cover the problem, if BMW tried to hit me with costs ?

The odds of the same people seeing this thread 3 years later are slim. You might try to PM them, see if it emails them at a current address that you are trying to ask them a question.

I had the turbo lines on my 2013 28i at 42K miles.

I don't think there was a recall for the turbo lines, just a warranty extension.

Here is the one for the timing chain: https://bmwtechnician.com/2017/08/02...-bmw-bulletin/

FYI: BMW has a web site where you can see what items they are covering via extended warranty. Note, the real purpose of the site it to request a reimbursement if you had the work done before BMW decided to extend the warranty or had the work done by a third party.

The site is bmw-pr.com and you will need the last 7 digits of your VIN.

I also have a '13 X3 with the N20 engine and the following are what it shows for my VIN:

[1] BMW ELW N20/N26 Turbo Oil Feed Lines
[2] BMW N20 Pressure Switch - Leak Diagnosis Module (NVLD)
[3] BMW ELW N20 Coolant Thermostat
[4] BMW N20 AND N26 Engine Timing and Oil Pump Drive

I have had the Turbo Oil Lines and the Thermostat done.

i checked the above however it does not give me the bulletin.

My smoke issue has been confirmed as the turbo oil line, in being replaced.
