I have the paint starting to peel on the spoiler right where it meets the black, 2020 donnington grey.
I have not said anything to the dealer yet I'm close to needing service I'll bring it to their attention when I drop it off.

Not exactly the same issue as others, but I just noticed two paint flakes having simply chipped off above the driver's side door next to the roof rail of my 2021 Donington Gray.

I showed the issue to a friend of mine who has been running a car paint and body shop for 40 years, and to him it looks like a manufacturing fault with the paint adhesion. Several layers of paint chipping off and leaving sharp straight edges are according to him a sign of a problem with the adhesion. The shape and location almost on the roof make it impossible for it to be from something hitting the car and I have not had anything hit me before this appeared.

I have reached out to my dealership this afternoon and am waiting to hear back from them. I had the car in for the 2000km service only two weeks ago and haven't been driving it since then due to COVID, so I didn't notice this before now. Now I am very annoyed to say the least!

Any thoughts?

A single rock made those two chips. Likely nothing to do with a paint issue. Nothing a little touch up paint won't fix.

This car has to have the worst paint I've ever seen on a car. I have never had a car so susceptible to deep rock chips like I have on my car. Arizona roads are terrible but it looks like my car is 5 years old. My previous 2 bmw's never looked this bad after this short of a time. Never had to touch up the previous 2 even after my full lease term driving in similar conditions.

I have had rocks hit my previous cars and even the upper roof before and this cannot be that. This has happened somewhere between the dealership and our home, which is only 4 kilometres on a 50km/h street network. No rock would cause such damage at those speeds and I would have noticed the bang.

The only thing I did after picking up my car from dealership was that I took it through Esso touchless wash (I know, I know) but everyone I talked to doubted that the water pressure could have torn chips off the paint like that, unless there was something wrong with the paint.

I will have to see what the dealership will tell me and worst case scenario touch it up myself. Any tips on the best solution to patch a small hole like that? I don't think touch up paint will cover the hole...

Whatever it was, sucks that it happened only 20cm from where the PPF ends...

Xpel PPF lasts up to 10 years. I doubt I will ever have to remove it.

Paint comes up with it I bet. Most likely the bumper area. Im also curious on all these brands claiming 10 year. Granted I had 3M ppf which is cheaper so had to pull it off my previous garage kept car around 4 year mark due to yellowing.

Have suntek ultra waiting to go on the X3m though. Still doubtful it'll last 10 years.

That is definitely a chip from something. You will know quickly if it is an adhesion problem, as those of us with paint adhesion issues can tell you.

When you see chunks of paint in your washmit, you know it's an adhesion issues.... From what I can tell, my friend, you have a chip from something hitting the paint.

Wait, are you saying that someone missing an appointment is the worst customer experience you've ever had in your life? I wish that was the worst customer service experience I ever had

No Im saying Ive been waiting 2months for the rep to come inspect a $83k vehicle with a known issue. It's a joke. The dealer has sent photos but the regional rep has to verify the problem. Come on!

Go to Herb Chambers BMW. I didn't have to wait for the regional rep. I raised the issue and they took care of it for me.

If the paint job turns out crap again maybe ask them for the m performance spoiler instead and leave it gloss black.

That could work. Do you have a solution for the rear bumper?

Also, are the paint issues limited to the X3/X3M? Or, are the newer BMWs in general exhibiting paint peeling issues.
