Put a deposit on 4-6-19. 047 Spec build:

20SD X3M Competition
475 Black Sapphire Metallic
LKHV Adelaide Grey
ZDB Driving Assistance Plus
ZPX Executive Package
4FH Ventilated Seats
4MC Carbon Fiber Interior Trim

My CA, who I have purchased several BMW vehicles from, said he had no official knowledge on the production start date.

Ordering and pricing guides are available. See stickies.

I'm not placing an order until I can see and drive one.

Hi Barathon, my source is 2 swiss bmw exec during the presentation of the cars last tuesday. The X3M competition was displayed in black with merino/alcantara seats. The X4M competition was displayed in Donington Grey with merino A. grey seats. I must admit colours that will contrast with the black shadow line M elements underline the details. Donington grey was very nice and suits very well the car. M sport seats are very confortable. Unfortunately we could only stay 15 min by the car, and it was not possible to start the engine.

So they said that production was delayed for all regions, not just Switzerland?

The BMW North America documentation shows start of production is April 19, so I'd be a bit hesitant to believe some verbal statement over the docs.

At least I hope that the order guide is correct and that Exec was wrong...

yes from april until june producted cars will be for medias test-drive and for dealers (demo cars). End client's cars will be build from June/July. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm hearing June production / August delivery.

Better question is - are they still 2019 models? if they are - they still have old tech/

New 2020 X3 will switch in August to 2020 model with new dash and Idrive 7

will that leave X3M behind or will they switch to 2020 as well making it the shortest model year run known to men

I’m curious to know the facts, as I’ve just placed my order, am in no particular hurry, and prefer to ‘standardize’ on iDrive7 (our other vehicle is a G05 X5). I’m not especially fond of iD6 (less intuitive than iD5, which we’ve had on our last few BMWs). I’d gladly wait for an August build to get iD7.

Hey Ilyam5, I've been hearing about this since last year as well. The X4 M40I and X3 M40I are supposedly going to inherit the new 3 series digital dash/ M-Sport steering wheel/ As well as a horsepower increase to 385 to match the M340I.

The problem is, I haven't been able to confirm this with any of the salesman that I know. One salesman asked me how I even got the information. I just keep getting the same response along the lines of "its too soon for this generation to have such significant updates."

Would love to get a solid answer on this finally lol

Not sure where people are getting that the X3M/X4M were ever going to be released as model year 2019s. Even the BMWNA order guide shows MY 20

It was in hopes of the x3M getting tech updates coming in August to all 2020 models
Being 2020 already makes it worse. We know they are being manufactured now with old tech. If no switch in August -it means x3M will stay behind the rest of x3 models
- no I drive 7
- No Assistant drive Pro
- no remote start, etc.

They build them on the same assembly line. Move over to ID7 wouldn't happen until they switch over in August production. This means that the first few months of 2020s would have ID6 which lines up with the systems being installed in 2019s still being produced while the ones starting in August could conceivably start with ID7 (along with the switchover for normal cars). Same as what happens in 2017 with the F80

Hi Barathon,

I'm in doubt between buying a 2022 X4M (Toronto red by the way) and a 2022 M3 Color TBD. i see that you have owned both cars. What is your opinion on both?

i'm kind of 51% for the X4M, like the practicality of the hatchback back door, it's a bit bigger inside (?) and wife likes it more (although she already has a 2021 X5).

what is your opinion on both?

thanks!

I'm also torn between Toronto and Phytonic. I really like blue cars but not sure that if Phytonic is special enough. The Toronto looks amazing but not sure if I'd like it long term.

Interior I'm kind of thinking Adelaide Grey Extender Leather for either.

I've enjoyed the X4M Comp, at first I had some complaints about the seats, I thought that they were either too narrow or maybe not centered on the steering wheel enough however after a while the seats broke in and I don't find it uncomfortable anymore. I just did 2 12 hour trips and was not uncomfortable.

That said, I really do miss my M3, it was just more of a "special" car. I also have a real problem with changing cars too often haha so I am going to be trading this in probably next week and ordering a new M3 Comp xDrive. I did like having an SUV for some things and will miss that convince but I think that this time I am going to buy a winter/long trip/bad weather SUV to use to avoid having to buy and then swap to winters and back depending on the season.

Since I've missed my M3 so much if I could go back I maybe wouldn't have bought the X4M but it is also a great ride so it's going to really depend on what you want it for.

If you do end up getting the X4M and need some winter tires/rims let me know I will probably sell the ones that I have.

Good luck to you on your decision!

I saw one in person but it did not have the carbon bucket seats, I was there the da before they were officially released and the dealership wouldn't let me test drive it until the next day.... I wasn't able to go the following day but the day after that the car was sold already.

The grill really is a lot better in person. Having never sat in the bucket seats that's something that really concerns me but I may never get a chance to see them before I order it so I think I will take the gamble, they just look too good.

Was also thinking between M3 or X4M. I'm going for the X4M due to way more practicality, stealth, and rarity. I also feel like the M3 is the go to car and is too overplayed.
