Lower Wattage LED Bulb for Headlights?
Alright, I am an idiot for this one and should have double checked before I purchased. Misread and jumped the gun. 2008 BMW X3.
Got new LED bulbs w/canbus for low beam at 25W per bulb instead of 55W for halogens. They are 5000 LM per bulb so brightness should not be an issue. Doing searches online, I found in lighting fixtures, you can use a lower wattage bulb...but am unsure if that would be okay for our cars. Will it automatically adjust wattage used? From my understanding, it is more a concern of heat vs anything else so using a LED bulb with lower wattage would be even less heat. Can anyone chime in? Rather not go through the hassle of installing them if they will not work or long-term issues. And throw them up on ebay and hopefully break even. Thanks. |

shouldn't be any issues. The wattage is less because LED's require a lot less power to run compared to HID's. What do you have in there currently? If its H7's then you'll probably have worse output because you'll have hot spotting and scattering. If you look at the retrofit source you can get a kit to install a proper LED setup or an HID setup. Then here's a great DIY on installing https://www.quirkyuncle.com/2012/11/...pgrade-bmw-x3/
I looked at doing this to my wife's X3 that had H7's but it was never a priority and we sold the car. When i bought my X3, having HID's was a must along with Phillips X-TremeVision Gen2 bulbs. |
