Possibly buying an 04 X3
I may be buying my first BMW!! It's a 2004 X3 with 124k miles. Very good shape. The service engine light is on. Here's my noob question, is that the same thing as the check engine light? Do BMW's have both a service engine soon light & a check engine light? Thank you in advance

Unless I had access to those and extra $$$ on hand...…...I'd never buy a vehicle that old/mileage.

Besides, my question had nothing to do with the mileage or age of the vehicle, I wanted to know about the difference between the service engine soon light & the check engine light

I have 2 young children. I wouldn't want to be broken down on the interstate with a 15 year old vehicle and not knowing what was serviced properly over the life of the vehicle. I'm not knocking your choice of vehicles.....

You would need a OBD scan tool to see if there is a PROBLEM with the vehicle or if it is just requesting a required SERVICE based on BMW's CBS.
