Challenges finding quality low-mileage X3MC

I was close to purchasing a used 2020 X3M Competition (located near Chicago) with approximately 1,600 miles on the odometer when I was presented a BMW of North America disclosure stating "This vehicle was used in BMW Experience Driving Program and is not eligible for CPO/MINI Next or EVP/EMP. Additional Information: FULL TRACK DISC". That was a deal breaker for me - I'm not interested in a vehicle that was almost certainly driven hard on the track. Anyone else have the experience?

It would have saved a lot of time and frustration had the dealer listed the vehicle as "used in BMW Driving School" instead of stating "BMW Executive Demo vehicle".

Given that experience, I asked the right questions when calling about another low-mileage 2020 X3MC (this one in Charlotte). Sure enough, it had the same BMWNA disclosure.

A third used X3MC I was considering (this one in CA) came back with a disclosure stating Damage Type = UPFIT; Up-Fit to meet US Specifications. Total Repair Amount $19,936.08.

A fourth one stated it had been repaired and/or refurbished by BMWNA - the rear bumper was repainted and new wheel arch trim was installed due to chipped paint.

Finally, the one I called on today in PA shows record of just one oil change since purchase - oil change at 9,968 miles.

Finding a clean, well-cared-for, low-mileage X3MC is proving challenging.

And as you likely know, most dealers are quoting $10k over MSRP for a new 2022.

I’ve attended quite a few Ultimate Driving Events and after beating on car after car I asked the instructor where these cars go when they’re done with them. He said auction or for sale. I can’t believe these cars are driven at full throttle over and over and then sold. Seems dishonest to me. Good catch finding the admission it was a Drivers Experience car.

My 2020 X3MC is still for sale in NJ at the dealership. Fully loaded, white w/sahkir, 11k miles. Not sure if that type of mileage or color combo works for you, but figured I would mention it.

Spirited driving from time to time, but never chipped or had any mods done.

And here I am still feeling salty that I only got 5% discount off MSRP on my LCI

Its an M car, it's literally designed to handle the abuse. And it's history was disclosed, so I don't see a problem selling them on.

That being said I wouldn't own one. :

Guarantee it’s not that difficult to find a dealer willing to sell at MSRP on new. First place I went to wanted 8k over, second place I went to I ordered and closed for $750 under. Not unique to me ordering custom, every car was at msrp including a and x3m and g82 m4 they had in inventory

Have you been to these events? In the summer these cars don’t even shut off for 8 hours at a time ac running. Driver after ham fisted driver doing auto crosses and acceleration runs all day. Those cars are treated worse than a taxi. Sure M cars are built for track use but I gotta think those cars are punished more than race cars. But you’re absolutely right - who’d own one ?

Actually I would own one at the right price. Problem is people will buy them not really knowing any different, especially in this market.

I appreciate the comments. And I agree, there’s probably a buyer out there for every vehicle regardless of history. I just think it would be more transparent to say up front that the vehicle was used in the BMW Driving Experience - not bury it as one of 20+ pages in the purchase documents. As always it’s up to the individual to be informed and read what they are signing.

I bought a first gen X1 that was a dealer loaner for a year. Car ran like a champ. So yeah, a good deal makes up for a lot.

Same, but I’m glad we pulled the trigger based on prices we’re seeing now.

I think we need to distinguish low mileage vs. ULTRA low mileage. 1600 miles for a used car is extremely low mileage. I picked up my 2020 X3MC with 16k miles and I felt good with that being a relatively low mileage vehicle. $69k is what I picked it up for. Everything else on Autotrader was in the $70k range and was not a Comp model. The cheapest Comp model that was on there that wasn't crazy high mileage was about $77k. Even at the same dealership I bought mine at there was a non comp model for $4k more with the same amount of miles for $73k.
Keep looking for the perfect model, and it will definitely present itself when the time is right. I always lose faith when looking for a car and then the perfect deal comes up. If you are looking for a new car don't look in places like California as they have crazy high markups.

The fourt one with repainted bumper should be fine. It has been a widely reported issue for these cars to have that issue, even when almost new and as long as it was repainted by a BMW certified body shop, you are perfectly fine.

At least BMW was honest & fully transparent about this. If you bought this through a third part they wouldn't of been this upfront & candid.

And that fourth one you found with the rear bumper repaint. I may be buying that car with 1,037 miles on it. That occurred when the car had just 2 miles on the odometer & was professionally fixed before it left the factory. So had it not been disclosed, chance are I would've never noticed.

Just my .02 cents. I agree finding a cream puff of a 2020 X3 MC with the iD6 is not easy to find.

I think that may be the one (located in CA) that I'm currently securing. The repair work was done at the factory with 2 miles on the clock. So it's all factory issued new paint.

I'm surprised the dealer didn't use it as a sales tactic:

"Extra special, limited, exclusive X3M used in the BWM Driving Experience!!!"

every dealer is different since they are privately owned. even part prices. looking for mine, I called every single dealer in the reasonable area and drove almost 2 hours away for the best deal.
