Here is a first non-commercial exhaust video.
Sounds great IMO. Unfortunately the European models will not have the same sound due to OPF.
Sounds like they did away with the annoying and unnecessarily loud "backfires" that my X3 M40i exhaust has. This is much better.

I was exploding to hot that throttle and get excited and it actually was a let down. Maybe it's the transmission? Also, not thrilled with the tech on the car. The digital dash is gimmicky and the mess of a gear shifter is more annoying then it is functional. All together, I think my money is better spent on a different M car. The dealership was pretty great they pretty much pulled the car up and said "take it out". The only condition was to try and return the car in 20 minutes. I beat the hell out of the X3M and properly put it through its paces. Again, not impressed. PS: I'm an M car fan boy and have been salivating at the thought of a true X3 M. It looks like BMW is watering their lineup down.
This is my opinion only...as a track fiend and friendly neighborhood enthusiast (despite my sig I owned an E92 M3 and Audi S7 for a beat) and think the F80 exhaust sound is complete and utter garbage. Flame on if you wish but, to me, even the N54 trumps the lawn mower sound of an S55 any day.

LOL at people complaining.
I used to complain that the F80 didn’t have any steering feel but guess what car I drive now - an F80. It’s wonderful. I focused on one thing that was worse than before instead on 100 things that are improved. Including handling and fun overall.

Every iteration there will be those that are disappointed. Go drive the competition. GLC AMG 63 is boring and still sold with last gen infotainment. Alfa is a reliability nightmare and nowhere near as nice inside.

M40i is one of my favorite current BMWs. Perfect mix of practicality, comfort and amazing fun. X3M should take that and dial it to a more focused sporty experience. Just more fun. It’s not supposed to be a competitive race car. It’s supposed to bring most smiles per mile in a compact SUV and this puppy will deliver.

BMW makes M cars with Dual Personalities now.. incredible comfort when in efficient and up to full tilt.... driven hard you will see there are no compromises you will really only experience that effect visiting a track day or a BMW performance driving school.

At least that's my Biased opinion !!!
Perhaps it's as capable or more capable than previous M cars but just doesn't feel as raw. Something to be said for a car that's still fun being pushed to 60 percent not just 90 percent of its capability.

I expected more differentiation between the M40i and X3M front and rear bumper. Similar to what we have seen before with the X5M. That's the biggest visual disappointment for me.

you forgot to list that loud backfiring exhaust in the group of improvements over the X3 m30

Similarly, I'm betting the X3M has significant improvements in those same areas over the X3M40i. Quite a few X3M40i owners have posted that they are upgrading to the X3M, so we'll know soon.
POWER, handling and suspension.... aren't those all things that make it go faster... ? along with better brakes to make it stop... faster ..

If the X3M is successful they will make it more radical.
I resemble that remark.

I love those massive rear fenders.

The simple fact is that many BMW M models get SIGNIFICANTLY improved from the first year or two.

BMW E30 M3 improved with Evo1, Evo 2, and finally Sport Evo models

E36 M3 - 95 M3- OBD-1 ; 95 E36 M3 LTW ( no radio, hand picked motor, aero) ; 96 -99 M3 was OBD-II ; and if you wanted a four door ... 97-98 was E36 M3/4

E36 M Roadster and M coupe - S50 first 2 years 99-00 and then got S52 in 01-02

E46 M3 had issues early on with oil pumps -

E39 M5 came without angel eyes the first couple of years

Z4 - initially we were told no M model.. then surprise.. S54!

F82 M4 improved handling and EPS significantly with ZCP update

F87 M2 - became M2 competition after 2.5 years

Handled and rode great. Sounds good. For comparison I traded my 2016 X5M for an F90 M5. Also just drove a M40i.

Looks are up to the Individual. Performance rocks !

Only dings from me is the dash is not Leather and the steering wheel is manually adjustable. Overall, a very solid performer.

Agree! My lease is up on The X5 this coming July.I’m going to test drive the X5 4.0 and the X5 5.0 But, If they’re willing to negotiate on the X3M I’ll be happy to lease one.

Totally agree. Will be leasing the X3MC. 3 years from now there will be something better and faster.
I am keeping the Gts so I bought that one. It is a no brainer...

I'm considering an X4M to replace my X6M. I'm concerned about missing some of the luxury features of the bigger SUV. I was surprised to see a 265mm tire out back? Seems like there's a lot left on the table. Why not at least a 305?

Sorry it's off topic but if the x3m was right on the tail of f90s and f82 m4s then can you imagine the g80 m3 that will likely be 700lbs lighter and has a lower center of gravity.

X3m is 46xxlbs and we're expecting the g80 m3 will be max 39xxlbs.

Future M3 Preview

This is looking like it will be a great car and a good indicator of what to expect for drivetrain on the upcoming M3.

Curious that you trade down from an M5. i would think you would consider the M8 GC as replacement.
