Silicone, and the inside is still like brand new. I'm going to get one of the alcantara M Performance ones for the other key.

Just got this from Amazon. Nicer than I thought it would be. Hopefully it holds up and stops the random boot opening. I removed the extra loop, but may reconnect or cut the U piece to add some friction so that fob doesn't slide out as easily.

I have no idea.
In the very beginning when I pick up my M40i,
The logo is BMW, after few days connected to the car, it showed M logo after.

I was using this leather one that I got on Amazon. The quality is good and it doesn't add much bulk. It's slightly flatter than the carbon fiber one but just barely wider. It does a really nice job of preventing accidental button pushing.

I switched to the Autotecknic dry carbon fiber because I really like the look. Definitely looks more sleek and I like that it shows the side colors. But honestly I'm not sure how much I like it overall. The piece that snaps it into place broke the first time I put it on, so I question the quality. It easily pops open now. It doesn't significantly reduce accidental button pushing. BUT...the carbon fiber definitely blocks the signal. I used to be able to lock/unlock from 50-60 ft away. Now I have to be about 10-15. So I guess at least it prevents me from accidentally opening the trunk unless I'm close by.

I've got this one, looks like chrome even though it's soft TPU, has completely stopped the unwanted tailgate openings!

I had the genuine BMW one, but returned it because it was too bulky. I ordered this one from eBay and have been very happy with it. It fits perfectly.

So, the main reason you all use the cover, is for preventing the tailgate to open?
Or also to protect the key from scratches and such?

Never used a cover for my car-keys..
Never had my tailgate open by accident.. Then again, never had one that opened automatically all the way.

And if you would see my Audi key after 5 years, you would see that scratches on my key are not of great concern to me
(Btw, my spare-key of my Audi is mint-condition )

Yes I just have mine to prevent the tailgate opening, I couldn't give a crap if it got scratched!

Well, just have to experience it first hand then, if I encounter this unwanted tailgate opening

Will know in a couple of weeks... Hopefully..

I been using the Genuine BMW one for a month now, and I really feel it is way too bulky.

The one you got from ebay, does it stop you press the tailgate button by accident? because all the button still can be press in this case.

Here's the Genuine BMW M Performance key case I'm planning to get. Anyone have any feedback on this particular case?

I got this similar one - looks the same but without the M stitching on the side. Works well, no complaints. People still think it is obnoxious

I've only had my X3 trunk open due to the keys. It's the way I happen to put the keys in my pocket that one time. Didn't matter that I had a FOB cover since the pressure was falling on the trunk button.

I haven't had any problems with the trunk opening accidentally. But I have had problems with the car alarm going off. Once it went off while I was driving on the freeway and the key fob was in my pant pocket. The second time it was parked IFO my house on the street and the alarm went off for no apparent reason.
