Since you have the stock stereo, your only options are to install the Technic bypass harness or code ASD off. Read through the thread for details.

The ASD module does not have to be removed to access the plug, it just makes it much easier to disconnect the plug. There is only one bolt holding the black bracket that the ASD module is attached to. Just remove that bolt and the bracket comes right off so you can rotate the ASD module to easily access the plug. This will all make sense once you are in there.

Sirs
I am a new owner of a X3 M40i, who hates the ASD / Fake noise on its basic stereo system. As I believe that just pulling the Fuses 218 and 203 does not work for my system, can you point me towards how to code the noise off please? Thank you |

Today, I pulled the 218 fuse on my '19 X4 M40i and am so happy with the quiet. Takes nothing away from the driveability of the car......maybe even makes it better because I can hear my music much more clearly.

Just done the harness install this morning between meetings. WOW. it was easy.
All I need is just remove the amp. No need to remove the ADS amp, don't even need screw driver. There are enough room to just use finger to press the tab and remove the connector. Took 15min in total. Done a test drive. the differ is DAY AND NIGHT!! The car is MUCH more enjoyable without the fake sound. Also, I notice music get much wider sound stage. I really don't understand why BMW do this in the first place. Or at least they just make it can be disable in iDrive. If it can be coded off, it can be done in iDrive. The car is much more enjoyable now. Thanks TX3M and Max Well!!! Last edited by lo_cheng; 04-17-2019 at 11:54 AM.. |

Disconnect Battery to Install ASD Bypass Harness?
What have people been doing when installing the Technic PNP ASD bypass harness (disconnecting the battery or not)? If the battery is being disconnected, what has to be done when it is re-connected? Are any settings lost, or does an anti-theft code have to be interred?

I did not disconnect the battery. I turned the engine off, left the car alone for a few minutes (until the screen above the head unit turned off), then opened the trunk and proceeded with the cover panel and amp removal. It was all completely straightforward. I have not experienced any adverse consequences from not disconnecting the battery.

I pulled the 218 fuse on my HK X3 M40i PPF car a couple of days ago. I have to say I was shocked at how much fake exhaust noise is pumped through the speakers. The car is so quiet now its unbelievable.
I'll be making the mod to the rear box next to see what this is like and then maybe BM3 |

DD694, gugin. TX3M; Thanks for Responses
DD694, gugin. TX3M; Thanks for the responses to my question. I couldn't find that anyone had said what they did previously. Not worrying about the battery cables makes the job a lot simpler.

Hi,
Just got our M40i back from the dealer (after having some bodywork repairs) It sounded louder than before it went in - just discovered that somebody had put a new fuse 218 in! Just going to remove it now - to make things a bit quieter in the cabin. Cheers Steve
